misfires with centerfire
« on: November 11, 2008, 04:22:24 PM »
I purchased an Optima Elite for hunting this year, 50 cal ML, .270 and .223 . When I went to the range the ML worked great and grouped at about 2" at 100 yards. When I switched to the Centerfire barrels, I cleaned the face of powder residue and the first 3 shots were fine, then click....... nothing I waited 5 min, and checked the cartridge, primer was hit, but obviously not hard enough, this happened several more times, with occasional booms in between. Same thing with the .223 barrel, this was all with Winchester ammo. Any suggestions? the breech was closed firmly each time.

Thanks

Sounds like the Winchester ammo. I stopped buying Winchester .22s for that exact reason. CCI/federal/Remington are some choices you should look in to.

Tried 2 more brands of ammo and same results, only 3 bangs and 8 clicks.. Wrote a somewhat polite letter to CVA and will see how they want to resolve it. Tried shooting with and without forearm in case it was binding and always closed the breech with authority. So much for quality, had I known at time of purchase that you could no longer get the 300 win mag, I would not have purchased, add in to that the fact that it won't shoot and it's a nice $550 paperweight.
