Tikka Continental 25/06
« on: August 13, 2003, 03:03:54 PM »
HI This my first post, but have gained a lot of knowledge and enjoyment by reading this sight. Need a little help. I gather the Tikkas are a good buy. Does anyone have experience or opinion on Continental in 25/06.

Zigzag,

First off, WELCOME ABOARD! :D

As for the Tikkas in general, yes, they ARE great guns and great values.

As for the Tikka Continental in specific, they are REAL TACK DRIVERS!!  I shot one in .22-250 and it grouped no worse than 1/2" groups at 100 yards with Hornady ammo.

The only downside is that they are heavy - about 9 pounds - due mostly in part to the heavy barrel.  Other than that, they are very well made and shoot great.

Yes, welcome!  I always thought the Continential rifles looked very nice.  I suppose depending on what you are going to do with it, the weight that Zachery talks about would not be a big deal.  But for a carry rifle maybe the Tika Delux would fit the bill.  Nice to meet you! :D

I don't own a Tikka but have several friends who do and a couple who own Sakos.  They are good guns no doubt and hopefully i'll own a Sako or Tikka in the future.  I was about to buy the Continential and would have except i bought a Remington Sendero at a very good price that i couldn't pass up.  The weight of the gun isn't something you want to carry around for long periods of time but for stand hunting or shooting from a bench or bipod i really think you'll love that gun. As for the caliber you made a good choice and the 25.06 is an awesome caliber and loaded with the right bullet it kills deer like lighting. It can also be loaded for some devastating results on varmits.  For deer i like to use 115-120grn bullets with my favorite being the 115grn Nosler partition followed by the Hornady 117grn BTSP and the Speer 120grn SPTZ.  As for varmits it's hard to beat the Hornady 75grn v-max or the Sierra 75grn HP both for accuracy and performance.   Mike

Never owned tikka but I owned a 25/06 in a remington. It was an awsome gun and I made up my own loads. It was a sporter model BDL and with a scope and bipod it was by no means a light gun. However the weight was managelible and I carried it hrs across hills and through fields. I shot mostly varmints with it and it was deadly accurate with the loads I worked up for it. One note: Go with the Tikka if you can cause remington don't make em like they use to. ( flemsy clip in extractor that seems to always work loose ).
