For me, I dont find the survivor stock very good for scope use. The comb is too low. I dont like lifting my head from the stock to see thru the scope.

Its possible you could add something to raise the comb abd make it more suitable.

Many guys still use scopes on them and like them very much. For my money, it makes a nice open site stock.

I traded my survivor for a pallet wood for that very reason.

The survivor is kinda odd to hold up to your cheek, try an Ultra:

This past weekend was that guns first trip, Gun 1, Doe 0 at 120+ yards :)

I've got a 6-18x50 on there but my first choice would be a 4-16x50 for
close wide angle shots.  A 40 or 44mm objective is fine for most but I
hunt predators late in the eve and my eyes are getting weak.

It would depend what you want to do with the gun.  For knocking around, I would put a low-power, maybe fixed power.  If I wanted to shoot prairie poodles or gophers the higher power would be the way to go.  Just my opinion, ya know.  DP

I have a fixed 4 power on my 308 as the others mentioned the comb is a bit low. I fixed it by adding layers of tool box tray liner to it until I got the hieght that works for me and in tru do it your self spirit I used electrical tape to hold it in place then covered the gun in camo tape. it shoots great.

  Well Jeremy,
You certainly have me thinking about what I'll do next. By next I mean after the .22LR and the .22 Mag. A lot of that will depend on what I find at the gun show this weekend.
  I'll be looking for a .223 though.

i took a piece cut from a military sleeping mat and put it under an elastic shell holder to make a cheek pad.  works good.  i have a bushnell elite 3200 2x7x32 in low luepold rings.  going to have to take a good amount out of that hammer to get it to clear a scope with low rings, but atleast it puts the scope closer to eye level without much cheek pad.

Joe that was my first thought but I didnt have one handy ;) so I used what was in my garage at the time.
Rusty as Joe and Tim pointed out there are many ways to making these stocks work. I bought mine because of the storage in the stock and I like the pistol grip. It has made for a great walking gun and I enjoy shooting it.

With mine I just ordered the Monte Carlo stock from H&R. I have mounted on mine a Nikon Prostaff 4 x 32 fixed powered scope. This combo has served me very well.
