Gaucho Issue - What Would You Do
« on: October 16, 2008, 05:51:29 PM »
I have had a Gaucho, 5.5" 45LC blued.  On the first trip to the range I found that it was a five shot.  One of the cylinders is not machined flat on the case flange end.  There is a little metal left from machining the flutes in the rear end of the cylinder.  Just enough so that round gets pinched between the cylinder and the rear of the frame.

Here's the question.  Do I just pay my friendly local machinist to get rid of the extra metal or do I pay the freight back to Taurus, wait until I am grayer and fatter for it to come back, and hope they didn't make it worse while they have it?

The freight has to be $30 or more and I think I can get my machinist vendor to do it for less than $45 in a few days.  Would you do it and risk it voids the warranty or use the warranty and risk it may or may not be fixed?

What warranty? Taurus customer service is the only bigger joke than their quality or lack thereof. Get it done locally if you want it done right.

as much of issues you have if you just got it i would take it back to the dealer and tell him nicely to take it back and tell him you wish to upgrade it to a  ruger and spend the extra  $$$  and if he gives you the run around tell him to ship it back  and you want a new cylinder in it then go trade the POS in and get a ruger

but what ever you deside good luck

Slavage gave good advice.  Here's a different twist if the dealer is a jerk.  Tell the seller that you want an upgrade to a Ruger & if he won't, threaten him with a small claims court action against him for the cost of the gun, small claims court fees, sheriff's service, etc.  By the time it's over, he'll have around $300. in extra costs.

I believe that since he sold you an item that won't do what it's advertised to do, and if he refuses to give you an item that does work as advertised, you will win the suit, and the court will order him to pay the fees.

This is your last resort course of action, only if the dealer is uncooperative.  Most want to have satisfied customers.

Probably the smartest thing you can do is GET THE RUGER.
Vote them all out, EVERY election!

Now hold on there!  I own 3 Gaucho's and I love them.  Very smooth action, accurate, and nicely finished.  You have a modern gun with a transfer bar, but the trigger sits in the traditional place in the frame.  I had a minor issue with one, the cylinder holes did not line up with the loading gate when on half cock.  Not a lot, but enough that you would catch a cartridge rim occasionally when unloading.  Before you say anything, I have had that same issue with an EMF and with a Uberti and it's a easy fix and I have done it myself in the past.  But since this Gaucho was new, I sent it in (only $15 through my dealer) and it was quickly repaired and returned.  I was very pleased.  After owning these three guns and handling and shooting them for some time, the Gaucho is a much better gun than is given credit.  That said, if it were my gun, I'd just take a file or have someone machine off that burr and go out and enjoy the gun.  If you would rather not do that, send it in to Taurus, I'm sure they will take care of you.  At any rate, hang on to that gun (or sell it to me cheap!) and give it a chance.  I think you will be pleased with it.  44 Man

Ditto on what was said, have a Gaucho it does and will put 50 in a 1.5" hole at 25 yds with just a sand bag.
