Quickie Range Report - Brand New 22-250 Bull Barrel
« on: November 23, 2008, 11:09:14 AM »
Rifle arrived yesterday. Only had time to get it sighted in (3 shots) and shoot one 3 shot group (just over 1 inch).  Using some handloads prepared for a Ruger M77 Varmint I once had (H414 and 55 grain Vmax), into a 10 mph headwind, off an unsteady sandbag rest (forgot Harris bipod).  All I had time for as I had pending 7mm-08 work (Stevens 200) and Christmas lights waiting at home, but just had to take advantage of what might be the last pretty day of the year.  Nicest trigger of any Handi I've ever handled (probably not over 3 pounds). Should be a very nice shooter.

Sure sounds like it has potential. Ain't it nice to get a new rifle that's got a good trigger! :)

GOOD SHOOTING!

the 22-250 is fun.  It really "barks" when you shoot it.  Last week I had someone ask "what the heck you shooting over there, that things is loud".  I answered "just a little old .22"

I have found that hand loads start to show "stop here" pressure signs around 1 grain below max in the Hodgons books.  I been shooting 55 grain boat tails (that come in the bulk Winchester bags)  Never could get the clover leaf groups at 100 meters so this last bag I bought was 50 grains, some kind of hollow point I think. I was looking for 40-45 grainers but they were out of the bulk stuff.

It is neat where I can be sighted at 200 meters, then turn around and hit the ram at 500 meters without changing the scope  :)

2 weeks ago my buddy brought a silhouette he had built out of 1/4" AR plate. At 200 Meters the 22-250 was just about going through it.  Some of the holes you could see light through!
