Turning a .45-70 into a .45-90,100,110, or 120
« on: November 11, 2008, 02:26:33 PM »
Is this a process that can be done by hand, or must it be done by a competent gunsmith on a lathe? I am interested in changing my BC, but I would kinda' like to do it myself to save money, and have fun.

I can't believe there was only one reply to this!   :o  I get sick for a couple of weeks and look what happens!   ;)

I asked the same question not to long ago after picking up a BC barrel here.  One of our 45-120 shooters, Tim, had his done, and another, Tyke, did his own.  My decision was that I would rent the reamer from one of our sponsors and do it myself.

Of course it's a rule that I have to kill a deer with any weapon I get "as is" before I start any modifications to it, and since I haven't been able to get out and hunt since opening weekend I'm a little behind (about 3 does behind to be exact) in that respect.   :(

That reminds me... I got to see if that brass is still on sale...  :P

Glad you're up an about, you old F$%T.  If you were here with us, you wouln't have missed diddly squat.  Wayne, from Florida got one 8:30 opening day, and it's been zilch since then.  The weather is bad (good for us) and the sign is improving.  We're headed back out in a couple of minutes.  We've got more than a foot of snow now, not quite enough for snowshoes, but enough to make walking tough.  I stashed the .45-70 and .357 Handis in the blind so I didn't have to tote them back and forth.  I just go back and forth with my Blackhawk  It won't do me any good on that 12 point at 300 yards ??? :-[
