44mag handi
« on: November 17, 2008, 04:26:57 PM »
I bought a 44mag new in box in 06. the box and barrel are marked SB2. Serial number starts with NW. Can this rifle handle other centerfire rifle barrels or is it one of the 44's that can only take shotgun barrels. I'm guessing yes but wanted to make sure. Thanks

Josh

I am also GUESSING yes. To be sure look in the FAQ. There is a section in there to identify an SB 1 frame from a SB 2 frame. I bought a new 44 mag in the fall of 2007. It should have been an SB 2 frame and after checking the FAQ, I discovered it really was a SB 2. I sent it in for 2 more barrels. A 22 Hornet and 444 Marlin. Good Luck and Good Shooting.

I don't have anything to talke the stock off with. (nothing long enough) what do you guys use? What size is the bolt that holds the stock on? It has a small firing pin, but seems to have marks from being cast. I'll call H&R tomorrow and see if they can help. Thanks

The stock bolt is a 9/16th " hex head...I use a 12" extension and a ratchet.  You might be able to get by with a 10" extension.  Or, just stack a couple shorter extensions together with a deep wall socket.

as per um.............remington my handi is a sb2. The guy said he couldn't look it up by serial number because of the merger, but with my box saying sb2 and the small firing pin he was certain it is a sb2. I guess if I shoot a higher pressure rifle on the frame and it blows up I'll know!
