New scope for the handi.
« on: November 05, 2008, 01:03:35 PM »
I have had a Trashco on my .223 for a while now so I decided its time to dress her up a little.  The local gun shop talked me into a Simmons Pro-Hunter 4-12x40.  I ended up paying $95 plus tax.  I got home and looked on midway USA and the same scope is $149!!!  I cant complain abou that.  Hopefully I will get some range time this weekend and sight her in.

Cool and good deal.Trashco is right I misted two deer one year because of one. Simmons is an up grade but I only put them on low recoil guns. The 4x12 pro-hunter is on my best squirrel gun.Hope it shoot well for you.

I was shooting about 3-4" groups at 100 with factory loads but I have put 50-100 rounds through it tops.  I recently tried some hand loads through it and that tightened up the group a little more but I had a suspition that tasco kept losing zero.  Hopefuly I can get some rounds through it this weekend with a range report for you guys.

I've got 4 of the Simmons Pro-Hunters in 3X9X40 that have done a good job for me.  Since the re-design of the Simmons line they have some good scopes at a good price.  I paid $89.00 for mine thru Natchez and the difference in glass with them and my VX-III isn't as much as the difference in price.  They sure work good enough to hit a deer or prairie poodle. ;D  DP

Thats cool, do you give it any field time, or just range time?  I still have a cheap BSA fixed 4 on my 30-30, under an inch at 100 yards.  It should hold out for the rest of deer season.  Can't wait to get my handi though!

I too have this scope in the A.O. model on a .22RF and like the optics. Clear and crisp, much better than I expected!!  I bought it on-line and didn't look thru it before hand. It was a good deal and I needed a scope for this 22 so I ordered it. I have been very satisfied!!

Good luck with yours!!

Another thing about the Simmons is how they fit over the hammer.  Check out the pics and you will see.  Lets ya mount them lower than some other scopes.  DP

Nope no range time yet.  Dam daylight savings made it so I cant get any shooting in after work and everyone has been sighting in their slug guns on the weekends for deer this saturday.
