I may be wrong but it sounds like a chamber problem =and is to  long
that makes headspace issues.shell fits real loose and can go further in the barrel than needed
as it does this the fireing pin can't hit it.

I had the same problem with mine when I first got it.  Sent it back to NEF and they fixed it, but that was back in the 90s.  You can try that, but if a new barrel is needed you are out of luck, they don't have any more.  I'd just stay with handloads.

That was a common problem with the 35 and that's why it was discontinued... I heard it was headspace problems, something to do with the shape of the case.....

whats strange is i shot it about 25 times ( with handloads that were full length resized) with no problems before i had a trigger job done . i thought maybe the gunsmith did something to the hammer spring  but i checked it compared to my other handis and it seems the same.  he said he only polished some things and didnt alter the spring. this guy does a bunch of theses guns and is one of the best gunsmiths around so i would think he did it right.

has anyone removed a little off the face of the hammer to get a little more protrusion of the firing pin?

Maybe your spring is week??? Or firing pin is too short... Also refer to the faqs and check your barrel/receiver gap by using feeler gauges...

Yep!

Remington factory ammo just doesn't work very well in these guns.  It's a common problem with this caliber.  The 7.62X39 has similar issues.  That's why they were dropped.

barrel locks up tight  with no gap. ive been using remington brass too and the shoulder looks very round copmared to the fireformed brass. the firing pin sticks out about the same as my other handis.
