Savage 70 vs howa 1500 your take?
« on: October 23, 2008, 03:56:29 AM »
So i own both a howa 1500 in 243 and a savage model 70 i like both rifles but honestly i think the howa is better quality and just as accurate if not more depending on wich loads i use. What is your take on the two?

Do you mean a Winchester mod 70 or a Savage 110?

I like the Howas with wood stocks.  If you mean a Winchester Model 70, I wouldn't trade one Model 70 Winchester for 5 Howas.

I don't care much for the Savage products.

What is it that you don't like about the Mod 70? Is it that you prefer the 2 position safety? I am not looking for a diatribe about how superior the mod 700 is, I am just curious.

Winchester makes the Model 70.

Savage makes the Model 110 (other variations, all with 100-something designations), and the Steven Model 200.

Remington makes the Model 700, 710, 715, 770, 798, 799, Model 7, and XR-100.

Ruger makes the Model 77.

Howa makes the Model 1500.

Weatherby makes the Vanguard and Mark 5.

Browning makes the A-Bolt and the X-Bolt.

Smith and Wesson makes the I-Bolt.

Thompson Center makes the Icon.

Mossberg makes the ATR and 4x4.

Marlin makes the MR-7 and the XL-7.

I think that covers most of the well known brands and their bolt action models.   ;)

If I forgot one, someone add it to post....;D

I like the Model 700 Remington best because it's accurate.

I think Tanker Joe is just messing with you guys getting all those 70s and 700s out of place.

::)  Sorry if this is a little off-point, but I did not know where to post this.  Since this is the bolt action forum, I thought I would ask here.  Patience please.  I am planning to rebarrel my Savage 110E from 30-06 to 25-06 (already have a second 30-06), and I was wondering if anyone has any experience using the e-gunparts.com online store.  Are they reliable?  I have read some bad reviews of Sportsman's Guide, which also offers replacement barrels.  Thanks.  Thanks for your patience.  Rich

I have not used either companies that you list for barrels  but I can recomend Midway. I have bought a couple of barrels from them and I have been very happy with both. Good luck
