.308 Handi making me happy
« on: October 12, 2008, 09:01:19 AM »
Got the Handi .308 barrel sighted in now using factory Rem. Core-Lokt 150 gr. PSP. I've been keeping three shot groups at 100 yds. within a 1.5" circle just about 1.5" high of the bullseye. So, I've started handloading some different bullets. This is my first group, using Sierra Pro Hunter 125 gr. Spitzers @ 50 Yards. So far, I've put about 50 rounds through this barrel and it just seems to get better and better.

looks great ! If you don't mind sharing , I'm curious what you set your cartridge over all length to? My survivor .308 seems to have an extremely long throat.

Thanks guys.

I did test the 125 gr. Sierra Pro Hunter to see where it would touch the lands. It ended up @ 2.834" OAL which left less than .125" inside the case, so I ended up loading it at 2.622" OAL, as listed in Lyman's 48th Edition.
As I understand it, most of the Handi rifles have long throats.

 Sounds about right to me...

Personally I like to keep at least 1/4" of the bullet in the case.

 Good luck and GREAT SHOOTING!!
