Just got my New USH barrel that I had fitted to my 223 Ultra Varmint Hunter frame back. All I can say is that although it took a while, at least they didn't screw it up. Everything fits super snug with no slop and no scuffs on anything, woot! And boy does that USH shoot good. Put 2 cheap remington sluggers in the same hole at 50 yards. Gotta get me some better bullets then shoot it at 100'. The 223 on the other hand, groups pretty darn good at 50' with the two brands of reloads I bought but at 100' they kind of opened up. Probably was me but then again I shot a 4 shot group with a Savage 17 hmr at 100' that a dime could cover. (believe me I was just as surprised as you) I did just read a post that they like heavier bullets since they have the slower twist, does that seem to be the consensus? I am going to pick up some black hills and maybe some heavier UltraMax. The reason I bought the 223 is because of cheap ammo and lots of brands so I want to find a cheap ammo that groups well enough for coyotes and ground hogs. I think part of the problem is me. I haven't had enough time to practice as much as I need too. Hard when I only get to shoot when I'm home and that's only about once a month, dang college always gets in the way. Well any advice you guys have would be much appreciated. Oh a couple of details, I shoot off of one bag pushed up against the trigger guard and have read the FAC's, just didn't have an o-ring this weekend. Another question, Should the fore stock be hard to put on? It seems to rubbing on the back side of the lug and from what I've read, these things are picky with their forearms. The USH barrel is the same way but it seems to be shooting like a champ. Well I guess I'll shut up now. Thanks in advance.
