NEF NT receiver questions
« on: October 01, 2008, 03:47:23 PM »
I'm not completely new to NEF handi's.  I had a .308 that shot wonderful groups that I never should have sold.

I now have an NT receiver with a youth stock and .22 hornet SB 2 barrel.  I'm guessing the NT is one of the older receivers?

Which calibers can I mate to the NT - is it limited to rimfire and the .22 hornet?

Thanks in advance for the answers.

I would very much like to get a few other calibers - especially .308 and .223 and possibly 7.62 x 39.  Anybody know of a 7.62x54R chambering?

I'm a fairly quick learner, and from looking at the stickies I'm thinking I have an SB2 receiver made in 2003 (NT prefix).

With that said, I should be able to mate any NEF centerfire barrel to it.  Am I correct?

.22 hornet is a centerfire.

The SB2 frame is a centerfire frame only unless used with an offset bored rimfire barrel from a Versa-pack, so you can't use it for any rimfire as you asked, only centerfire chamberings.

You are correct in that your frame is a 2003.
If it was a centerfire frame from the factory than you can put any center fire barrel on it.
If it was a rim fire or a shotgun frame from the factory than you are very limited.
That's why PHATINJUN said to check the FAQs.
There is pics of all of the frames and how to tell the difference.
The only other way to tell for sure is to call the factory and run the serial#.

The frame has an "R" and an upward pointing arrow in the bed of the receiver.

Seems my last post was "modified".   Guess the mods thought it inappropriate of me to qualify my question.  I intended no disrespect.

If you hit the modify button, you'll see that none of your posts were modified, if anyone did modify a post, moderator or member, it would indicate the data and time it was edited just below the text window as shown below. You evidently didn't post what you thought you did. ;)

The R↑ marking is common, I have several that are marked that way, the SB2 frame on the right in the FAQs link below has it.

There was a discussion on barrel markings a couple years ago, Mac talked with Gordon about it, apparently they quit doing the roll  markings that they used to such as you had in mind Kurt. ;)
