Need to get scope closer
« on: October 05, 2008, 06:05:08 PM »
Got a new scope for my Ultra .223.  It has real short eye relief.  Standard rings do not get it close enough to see through well.  I have to stretch to reach proper distance.  Need scope rings that will move scope to the rear more.  Have seen them on a few guns, but don't know what they are called or where I can find them.  Unable to locate them in Midway's catalog.  Can anyone point me in the right direction.

I know exactly what you mean.  I just went through the exact same thing.  I used weaver extension rings.  I ordered mine from SWFA

http://www.swfa.com/c-1948-weaver-extended-detachable-top-mount-1-rings.aspx

That is the selection they have.  I ordered the single extended Extra Highs for my 4x12x44mm Bushnell Banner and it worked great.

I wish I had a picture to post but the gun is back home 2 hours away and I wont be back there for 2 weeks.

If you are using a Weaver one piece base you can usually file another notch crosswise on it that will fix the problem.

That only works if it is the front ring that is causing the problem.  If it was like mine it was the ring closest to the hammer that was hitting on the turrets.  There was plenty of room for the back ring.

The flat on the rear of the Weaver #82 base is the killer, any of the other base options is a better choice. I've never had to use extended rings yet, but there's always a first time!! :-\

Tim I'll have to take a picture of mine.  As far as I could tell the scope rail was as far back as I could get it without it over hanging the end of the barrel and the scope ring I had was jammed up against the turrets.  I put those rings on it and it pulls up great now.

I've got a Millet 6X I just put on the 7.62x39 and it is also right against the turret. I can live with it right were it's at but 1/2" would be just right. Kurt
