22-250 bull barrel on BC
« on: September 29, 2008, 08:20:15 AM »
yesterday I finally got some results on my 22-250 fluted bull barrel I put on the Buffalo Classic.

I shot over 200 jacketed bullets out it and at least that many gas checked lead bullets I cast for it.
Nothing.  I was cussing that H&R.  All I could do was 8" groups with my new BSA target 8-32x scope.

Moved the BSA to my new Savage 308, same results.  Put an old Weaver K2.5 with a thick center post on the H&R.  Shooting my own 55 grain cast bullets I was doing 10 shots into 3/4" groups at 50 yards yesterday.  BSA is going in for repair/replacement.  Ordered a new scope for the Savage. the replacement BSA has got to be better then that.  Hell sticking a piece of gum on the end of the barrel and using it for a sight would give me better then 8" groups at 50 yards.

Glad ya got it figured out! Some folks love BSA scopes, but they didn't get the nickname Broken Scope Assemby and others like it for nothing. :-\ Fortunately BSA customer service is good about replacing the many that fail, too many for me to try another. :-\

Well I know I will hear "nay sayers" but this is about the new scope I bought.

At one time Simmons was pretty nice.  People still swear by the Whitetail.
Simmons, Weaver and Readfield have been owned by several different large conglomerates over the last many years that were into profit and maybe not much research.  Then a couple years ago Meade bought them.  Meade (the telescope company) is the first company that owned them in recent years that really was into optics.  I understand they redesigned the scopes and created the new master series.
I think they had a problem with them and recalled them all.  Now the new (fixed) series is out, but everybody is afraid of them.  Looking at the specs of the new ideas that meade designed in, they sound impressive for a $200 scope.  I bought the 6-20 power with side focus and mildot.  One of the best parts is the scope weighs less them the BSA, which puts my Savage 10FP under the 10 lbs, 2 oz weight limit to shoot High Power Silhouette.

Then I did my best days shopping and planned it out.  First I shopped all over and found what I wanted priced real cheep "blow them out" special at a shooters supply in "mid south". Then I called that S place in Texas where I bought my BSA and asked if they would do anything since it never worked.  They told me "we don't take care of the warranty, you need to contact BSA".  So I then asked about that little 110% price guarantee they show on the website.  I then directed them to that website in the "mid south".  They sold it to me for 125.00.   ;D

I figure BSA will send me a new scope, or a couple until they get it right.  I think I will use the BSA on the H&R because the higher power will let me see those smaller holes out at 300 -400 yards.

I got some news for ya, Meade is old news, that happened in 2003 IIRC, Bushnell owns Simmons now, so things may get better!!  ;) You'll learn that Meade service stinks if you spend some time in the Optics forum, so you got lucky there...hopefully. :-\

the saga continues!  How long ago did Bushnell buy Simmons?  Maybe my new scope will be a Bushnell? or Meade?  Anyway, I hope it shoots better then my current BSA.

I have what I would guess is an older original Simmons WTC on one of my .223's. It is a 6.5x20x50 and it's great and always has been. I believe I was lucky to get one before Meade and the others took over. I also understand Simmons went downhill for a while, lets hope they come back up in quality....<><....:)
