.338 Marlin
« on: September 10, 2008, 04:59:21 PM »
Did you all see Guns & Ammo TV and the new .338 Marlin lever? I just may have to rob the savings account. This would take care of our Colorado big mulies and elk easily. Wow, what an idea. Looks like 200 gr. Leverevolution ammo to start, should have great ballistics. What say you?

I have been waiting for marlin to put out a powerful medium bore that had more power than my 35 remington and shot flatter as well.  I cant wait until this hits the shelf but I am afraid that we will have to wait at least until next year.  I think G&A let this slip out a little earlier than Hornady or Marlin had planned.

I think things got out quicker than planned too. Poster on another site said he called Hornady and they just don't want to discuss it now. There is some controversy on what the case is designed from. I and a lot of others say he said the 376 Steyr but others say it is a necked up .308 Marlin. Wish I would have listened closer. Anyway I'm going with the 45-70 anyway.

My .376 Steyr has plenty of "stuff" on both ends...  The 220 grain loads aren't nearly as bad as the 270's.  Maybe the .338 will be easier on the shoulder.
