629 with power port?
« on: September 07, 2008, 08:15:42 PM »
With the 6.5 inch barrel, does the porting drastically, significantly, marginally, or not at all increase the percussion?

Thanks.

It's no secret that I'm really NOT a fan of porting on firearms regardless of their type. But in all honestly the revolver is already so loud due to the barrel/cylinder gap that porting does not add all that much noise to it. Regardless of ported or not they are all way too loud to be shooting without hearing protection and with it then it really matters not if it's a bit louder or not. But from my experience it's difficut to tell any added noise from a ported revolver unlike a ported rifle or shotgun which clearly seems louder.

The power port does not increase the percussion.

Okay, thanks guys.  I've got my eyes on one right now.  If I end up getting it and don't like the porting, I can always have my 'smith cut it off and recrown.

I bought one when they first came out. The port reduces felt recoil just enough that I think it's the most pleasant 29/629 I shoot recoil wise. The effect of the porting seems to take the sharp edge off the recoil.
