M77 Trigger job

I just bought a 243..nice rifle,used, very accurate but has the typical crappy Ruger trigger.  Is replaceing the trigger a big deal?  If I bought one from Midway, is it something I could do myself?

It is easy to put a Timney trigger in it.  The only extra you have to do is file the safety so it works correctly if it is a Mark II.  On the tang safe Ruger the factory trigger is adjustable.

MIne has the bolt saftey, Mauser style.  Is it still faily easy?  When you buy a Timmney trigger, does it come with a good set of instructions?

Yes it is fairly easy, like I say all you have to do is file some off the top of the safety to have it work.  Yes Timney gives you  good installation instructions.

Ditto from me...I've installed about 10 timneys in all kinds of rifles.  They are easy, but, I screwed up on the MK-II...I filed too much.  You'll need to completely install the trigger, springs and all, and then take the whole thing apart and file.  Something about the tension w the springs installed makes a difference.  I finally used the factory trigger with the timney sear and spring.  Not as crisp as I'd like, but, 100% better then the trigger it came with.  TAKE YOUR TIME AND GO EASY ON THE FILE!!!

Go by the timney instructions and do not file your safety file the place that is marked with paint on the trigger,

Do a google search or pm me, there are instructions on the internet that will get a factory trigger down to a crisp 2.5 or 3 lbs for about an hours investment.
I did find a Rifle Basix trigger in the bargain cave at cabelas for less than 1/2 price so I put it on a 77/22, it does make a nice trigger for not much work
