Special SCOFIELD
« on: September 18, 2008, 05:41:03 PM »
Has anyone ever seen a NAVY ARMS SCOFIELD like the one that was used in the TV series a few years back called "DEAD MANS GUN"?
It was engraved and had gold line boarders and gold initials with a set of stag grips.
It had a 7.5" octagon barrel with a color case hammer.
Man that was a pretty gun!
I did see one minus the gold initials and stag grips once when I visited the NAVY ARMS facility just after they moved to MARTINSBURG WV.
At that time I think it cost about $1400.00 for one.
Didn't have the money then and still don't,  but would find it somewhere.
I wish I had bought one back then.
Man that gun still haunts me.

I feel your pain, my friend.
I've wanted a Schofield ever since they hit the market. They were above my pay grade then, they still are.
That dosen't keep them from being the most graceful, best balanced revolvers around.
I wish Uberti would chamber them in .44 Russian, I have a new model Russian I bought about 40 years ago that is still one of my favorites.

I thought they did! (44 Russian) Maybe not, I have been wrong before.
I have a NAVY ARMS 7.5" blue model with a color case trigger, rear sight, hammer, trigger guard,& and a set of stag grips. I love it and it shoots pretty good but I don't carry it much, it's to pretty. I bought it private a few years back for $500.00 in ANIB.
Come to think of it I should have had that one engraved and all instead of having the RUGER BISLEY I am having done now.
More than likely it wouldn't have cost much difference.
Oh well maybe someday. I can always dream!!!
I do intend to carry the Bisley when it's done as a working gun.

Down here in North Texas when you find one for sale it's 5", and used or not it will cost you North of $750.
Found one at the last Tulsa show I went to, and it was NIB,.45 Colt, nickle, no less. The guy had $950 on it, and I tried all weekend to get him off that. No luck. The only Uberti Schofield in 3800 tables.

Who's doing the chisel work?  The last engraver I used is dead and I am looking for another one.

I like the idea of carrying your bragging piece.

Thanks.

I'M not having this one engraved yet, just full built the way I always wanted.
Costom front & rear sights, steel ejector rod housing, free spin cylinder, jewelled stainless Bisley hammer, action job, open the throats in the cylinder to .4525, and a 5.5" octagon barrel.
May add either a brass or stainless grip frame at a latter date.
Grips will either be old stag or old elephant ivory. I have both.
John Gallaier ? spelling?
Will run 230gr to 255gr JHPs at about 1100 to 1250 fps.
May have to send my Scofield off and have a DEAD MANS GUN made out of it someday???
