Tires????
« on: August 07, 2008, 03:11:04 AM »
It's new tire time for my wife's Vehicle. It is a 1999 Jeep Cherokee 4X4. The tire size is 225/75 R15.  I would like to get a good all terrain tire because we go camping off the road quite frequently, but it's primary function is a daily driver. It is completely stock. Can someone reccomend a good tire? I find tire shopping to be completely bewildering! ??? :o
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

I've had great luck with these tires. You can find them marketed under many brand names. They get great traction, aren't noisy and last forever. They drive great even up front especially on solid front axles.

The plane jane cheap Liberators from wal-mart are surprisingly good tires as well but they aren't as grippy as the tire above

Bridgestone REVO, I didn't check to see where you are from, but in winter here in Mn. these make easy work of snow. They are louder than the Goodyears that Ford mounted, but are so much better on wet, snow , and dirt. I have them on two trucks and will replace them with same when they wear out.

I've had very good service from B.F. Goodrich All Terrain T/A's on our Wrangler.  We're on our second set.  They offer decent off-road traction and good handling on dry and wet pavement.

I'm not a rock climber or serious off-roader, but the Mrs. and I do like to occasionally drive the off-road trails at the local State forests.  We've encountered mud, water, inclines, minor rock bed's, etc.  The B.F.'s have always performed well.

Our Wrangler is stock with no modifications.  The tire size is 30X9.5X15", which was a factory upgraded size.  I believe the T/A's are available in standard tire size's, as well.

Another tire I've had excellent service from is the Kelly Springfield SJR.  This has been an outstanding tire on our Explorer.  What I like most is its handling on wet roads.  Far superior than any tire I've ever used on an SUV or Truck.  Its does very well in the snow and on dirt roads, wet or dry.  While I do not use the Explorer for off road four wheeling, there have been occasions where I've needed 4WD during hunting season.  The Kelly's have done well during those times.

I also think the BF Goodrich T/A is a great tire. They may cost a bit more but I have been very happy with each set I have purchased

I have bfg at on my jeep and have run bfgs for years especially the mud terrains and have allways like them and will probably get a new set for the pickup before winter.

I'm a couple of days late but I have to mention Michlin LTX-M&S. They last forever almost, run quite, and have good traction. I put a set on a "95 Chey 3/4 ton truck in '98. Gave it to my son in "03 and he stuck a welding machine and cutting rig in it and is using it for a work truck. He finally had to replace the tires this summer. This is just one example. A brother-in-law has been running them longer than I have and has just as good luck with them as I have. Just put a set on my wife's SUV and that is what will go on the '03 Chey Duramzx when it needs tires.

Cooper tires seem to be the best bang for the buck currently in the tire market.

ditto on the mchelin thing, yu could also go to a 235, they a slightly heavier carcass tire, will last a bit longer but sometimes dont have road hazard.if yu have a sams club, go there and inspect the different tires, yu can tell just by lifting them wich has the heavier carcass and feels like a better tire.

what ever you get have them siped, they will last a lot longer, give better mileage run cooler and give better grip in rain or snow than studs.
