fosters in a rifled barrel?

 I know I'm probly gonna catch flak for this but anyone know the results if you shoot foster slugs out of a rifled barrel? I've talked to only one person that has tryed it and had really good results, his only dilema was that it did lead the barrel. Other then that I haven't found anyone that's tryed it so I thought I'd ask on here. I just put  together a slug barrel for my encore and was kinda looking for a less exspensive way of getting the scope close. Has anyone tryed this? fosters in a rifled barrel?

I think rifled slug barrels are generally more for sabot slugs. That being said my shotgun hates them and groups really well with rottweil/berneke. They have a rifled lead slug, not quite a foster but that's what it likes. Did you have the scope bore sighted? That should get you on paper or close. If you want to just pull the trigger then fine but if it were me I would sight my scope in with the ammo I plan to use for hunting.JMO

I Have had good luck with Brennekes in the past with smooth bores, my budget is quite low at the moment and was wondering about the fosters since you can buy 15 of them for less than any 5 round box of sabots. Another problem I'm haveing is my scope can;'t move over far enough to bring the bullets to impact point of aim i've gotten a new set of rings to try. I'm going to take the mount off and make sure it's clean. I also can shim it. but to find out what the problem is through exsperimentation is going to be quite exspensive if I just shoot sabots from anyone. Hence the quesion about the foster slugs.

I've tried Foster slugs in my rifled barrel, and was not impressed.  They were OK, but not as good as Sabot slugs.  I like the Hornady sabots for my 20 ga. 870.  It would be nice if the Fosters shot as well since the sabots are definately in the rip-off category.  I ran across a cache of old BRI slugs at a reasonable price, and am looking for more.

Anyone know how many rifled slugs you would have to put through a rifled barrel before it would start to lead?

And how long it would take to remove the lead?

How many to cause a problem may be a different answer.  Lots of varibles involved.   I have shot some and could detect no leading, but would not recommend the practice for tens of rounds.

I was looking at the Lee site yesterday and saw that they had a mold for 12 ga. slugs that are used with shot wads that contacts the rifling, not the lead slug itself.  If they had 20 ga., I'd get one.  Why doesn't one of the major manufacturers do this?  They could charge a bit more than regular fosters, and a lot less than sabot slugs!

My experience has been that AA wads get torn up by the rifling. You need a tough wad such as CVA muzzleloading shotgun wads.
