Inexpensive Weaver Scope Bases
« on: July 26, 2008, 05:31:55 AM »
I just bought a brand new Weaver base for one of my Handi's on a "Buy it Now" on e-bay for 9.48 including shipping and handling.  It was from bigdaddyscopes1, e-mail coacha1@hotmail.com  He has Weaver numbers 47, 53, 54, 76, 82, 83, 84, 86, and 424.  I thought it was a good deal because I didn't have to burn gas to get it.  Just thought I'd pass it on.  Pete

I forgot to mention, I had it in three days.

It sells for <$8 locally here, but the only way I'll use it is if I modify it heavily and end up with a clone of the H&R rail, see the FAQs on that. The bad news is that flat spot at the rear of the rail isn't Handi friendly for most scope mounting. The Leupold Rifleman #56515 rail is $6 if you can have someone order it for ya, it's a great alternative to the H&R rail if you already have a hammer extension or don't need to use it. TGS sells it for <$7 and $4.95 shipping. Pic comparisons are in the FAQs.

Tim, I read your post and said "poop".  I re-read the FAQs and said "double poop".  Now I'm in for some work or just get the Handi base.  I went down to the gun room and looked at the scopes and bases on the Handis and the 6 -24 on the .22-250 looked like it would work on the Weaver 82.  I took off the scope, mounts and base, put on the 82 with just one screw and tacked the scope back finger tight to see if it would work.  and It did, perfectly without any modification.  But, It was the only scope it would work on.  I lok-tited everyhing putting it back together and it shot fine.  I won't be buying any more 82's for sure!  Thanks again....and again.  Also, I think I solved my .22-250 accuracy problem....the base was loose on this one too, a nine month old factory barrel.  Now, the factory base will work fine for the scope I bought the 82 for.

In the old movie serials Poncho was not just a clown but was a bad mother in his own right. My favorite Poncho quote was " Oh si, Poncho like to eat, but better he like to Keel"!!
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

We oughta start an "Old Farts Handi Club" for those of us who can't see, can't hold still to shoot and remember Cisco and Pancho.  "Si" or "No" senores??  Had a great afternoon.  Spent it tweaking Handis.  Patty's off to Engadine's Heritage Day doing a spinning and weaving demonstration------"Sheep to Shawl"....it is pretty neat, but Handis are neater..........Don't say I said so!!!
