JBH45 25-06 Ultra is not to be.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi JBH45.
After waiting for over 4 month for this rifle and no confirmation date when it may arrive i have looked in other directions. Today at a big gun show I found a very nice Ruger #1 in 25-06 for only 200 bucks more than the new Ultra H&R.

The rifle has beautyful wood and close to 100% blueing. It is an older model with the adjustable trigger. From what I can tell it saw very little shooting. The forearm has shrunk a bit and has some latteral play.

This rifle only needs a good tune/clean up and some serious hand loads. The good thing about this rifle is that if it needed a new barrel it would still be less than a new rifle.

My 25 Hunter will be sitting on the side lines for a while until the smoke clears around the Ruger#1. Was gone for two month and just got home a few days ago. Fred M.

Hey Fred, I was up in your land a week and a half ago.  We stayed 3 nights in the Ontario side of Niagra Falls.  You have some friendly folks up there.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

Handirifle.
You been in nice country in Niagara Falls. I am about 2000 miles west of there.

The 25-06 Ruger #1 has seen very little use but hope to use it this fall if I get an Antelope draw. This turned out to be one super accurate rifle after I done
tweeking it. I have since acquired several more #1 and a #3 in 375Win.
It too is a very accurate.

Three shot group with 100gr TSX Barnes at 100 yards. I killed a couple of deer
with them bullets Vel is 3430 mvft with the 26" barrel.

Fred, sorry about the Ultra not coming thru for you.  I like mine, but need to get it out more.  That #3 sounds like a real winner.  375 and the 38-55 are under rated for game IMO.  Hope you're back to 100% health-wise.  DP.

Yes the 375 Win is quite the rifle and is good to 250 yards. It shoots only
a few inches low when sighted in a 200. Recently I shot a group at 250 yards
measuring 1-3/4". I don't have any experience with 38-55 but it too has plenty of power for most game.

I am getting better healthwise this infection toke a lot out of me  but I am
over it now and on my way to better heath.

Below is a 50yrd group with 200gr Win Factory  loads with the Ruger #3.

1-3/4" at 250? :o  Outstanding!   Fred, that is a keeper for sure.  In the same action, the 38-55 is interchangable with 375 Win.  Kinda funny how all the old cartridges that are to "weak" now were fine game getters years ago.  Keep getting better, Fred.   DP.

The 38-55 ammo can be used in the 375 Win. But not the other way around.
The 375 Win is loaded to a much higher pressure. The 375 Win is a true .375 caliber. I slugged my 375 bore and it is dead on at .375. With the 38-55
you never know, specially in a Handi, what the bore size is.

I would not advise to shoot 375 Win in a 38-55, nor would I advise to re-bore
a Handi to 375Win. The 375Win is rated at 63.9ksi. and that is much to high for a Handi. If a Handi was converted to 38-55 I would have the bore at .375
that way you could use all available bullets in that caliber.

I will use the 375Win again this fall on deer. I have developed an outstanding
handload with the 225gr Hornady moli coated bullet at 2300ft with a highly compressed load of H322 at 61ksi.
