Another Gaucho

I just brought my third Gaucho home.  This one is a used, all blue 5 1/2" model and she shoots great!  I had an old pair of Ajax fake stag grips lying around that I never liked so I decided to experiment with them.  First I thinned them and fitted them to the gun.  Then I cut a 'jigged bone' pattern on them and dyed them.  I think they turned out well and add a little 'flare' to the gun.  The next problem was a holster as I didn't have any for a 5 1/2" gun other than my double cowboy rig.  I saw this one on ebay and bought it reasonable but when I received it, it was of much thinner leather than I had hoped for.  Since many heavy weight holsters are actually two layers of leather glued together, I decided to do try to do that with this one.  So I took it apart and glued a second layer of leather on the inside, added a thicker welt to it, re-laced it, and molded it to the gun.  That turned out well also.  I guess the next time I should just make the whole holster I want from scratch!  Anyway I am pleased with this gun.  I have to decide now if I will leave it at 5 1/2" or cut it to 4".  I owned a Blackhawk that had been cut to 4" once and it was a very handy size.  I'd like to do this to this Gaucho.  Of course then I will need another holster!  It never ends, does it.  44 Man

Nice rig. I just realized I have no single action revolvers. I'll have to fix that.

No single actions?  Please go a buy one immeadiately!  I love my autos and I have some small frame double action revolvers for defense.  But when you just want to go plinking or for a walk in the woods, there is no better gun than a single action.  It's just relaxing work that old thumb buster and watch the dirt clods fly.  It is a mental state.  When you are wearing a single action, things just seem step back into an older, slower time.  Maybe a little feel of the 'old west'.  A time we were taught that was honesty and honor.  You can lean against a fence post, your hand on your grip, and survey your kingdom.  All just feels right with the world.  You have a gun available if you need it, one that will certainaly do the job required of it.  When wearing an auto or double action, they seem to impart a feeling of 'hurry, hurry, get'r done!' mentality.  Try it, you'll like it!  44 Man.

Dan Deluca aka "warrior1" has passed away.  Dan was a frequent poster here and on several other sites.  He passed away on 12/29/08 from a massive heart attack. RIP Dan.

Nice work on the Grips 44 Man  ;)

I'm not familiar with the term Gaucho.  Why do you call it that?   Looks like a Colt, or replica of one anyway.

Nice job on the holster........I'd like that for my USFA Cowboy 5 1/2" !!.............Good luck with the new "fun gun"........I agree with your last post   Re: the relaxing feeling when toting a six gun in the woods or fields.........I too, like my autos, but the Cowboy six guns are just plain fun.

You did a good job on the grips and the holster.  I have a 5 1/2 Gaucho in 45 and love it.  Now I may have to go on a grip quest.

FourBee, in South America (Argentina, Brazil, and other locations) "gaucho" means "cowboy." In Mexico, it's "vaquero" and that's were Ruger got the name for their SA cowboy guns.
