breech opening when fired

I shot my .223 this weekend and every time I fired my Handy the breech would open.The only change was I used factory shells(federal) instead of Remington.Any Ideas would be helpful.thanks in advance for replies.

Mine's been doing it too.  I had to shim with a coke can but once that ate away, it doesnt work with a new one.  I'm so sick of this handi.  Once I get it to not popping open I'm going to sell it (and take a bath on it I'm sure).  This gun breaks more than my old ford.

If you had to shim it, it needs to go back to the factory to be fixed properly.

I've never had this problem with my .223 Handi.  Any idea on what causes it?  Sounds like it could be very dangerous.

The only danger is on an ejector barrel from flying brass, the pressure is long gone by the time it happens, causes are listed in the two resources I listed.

sorry, I didn't get back to you guys sooner.I went to the range last night after removing the oil from the breech and everything worked fine!!!!

I only had one handi do that and it was a 500 S&w

Tim,  I had the handi that broke after 3 shots and wouldnt open.  When I got it back after 3-4 weeks it was loose.  After firing it about 20 times it was REALLY loose.  I'm not sure if it was loose before it broke after 3 shots or not because I didnt check it.  I figure the factory made it worse.  Should I really take another chance and send it in?

I definitely would, it must have a defective underlug for it too loosen up that quick,  they make mistakes sometimes, but the majority of the time they do excellent on repairs and rather quickly, and right now is their slow time, although the plant move may slow things down a bit later, but right now would be the time to take care of it. Call toll free and ask for Gordon(866)776-9292, explain what happened, ask to be reimbursed or have them issue a UPS call tag for pickup. Attach a note to the rifle so the gunsmith knows exactly what problems you've had with it, request them to reduce the trigger pull too if it needs it, won't hurt.
