Is Taurus 1911 strong enough to be a 45 super???

I have a custom 1911 that I have converted to 45 super and I now want to build one for my son. I need a good strong and well fit platform to start with. I then add a buffer system and a 28# Wolff spring. How good is the Taurus? I have not been able to lay my hands on one yet and don't want to invest in junk. Is it made of good steel and is it well fit? I assume it is a clone and would use standard 1911 parts. Would like to hear from anyone with any knowledge. Thanks in advance. - F50

The Taurus 1911 is a forged gun-like all 1911's parts are parts. In other words, they can be interchanged with fitting, this is the case with all 1911's

Son made the decision to go with Taurus it already has all the extras and good write ups. My main concern was the metallurgy in the Philippine guns.

  Keep in mind, Taurus offers a lifetime warranty and you may want to check and see if the warranty would be valid with the conversion. The conversion may void it. I haven't shot one, but working in a gunstore, I did cycle and handle the Taurus model you speak of and it was very tight and solid. There steel is fine for a Brazilian manufacturer. I have a Taurus Model 80 .38 revolver that was made in the late '70s and has had every +P load and handload you can think of and is still functioning fine today and it is not rated for +P.  Stay away from ANY guns from the Phillipines. They are junk and you are probably funding terrorists by buying it. Also stay away from any Charles Daly 1911 clone. We got so tired of it at the range due to malfunctions that it was removed, though if you had time to deep clean between magazines it would be OK!!!

I thought they had troubles with the taurus and the 460 rowland , if that is so , might the 45 super still give the taurus problems? I don't know , just asking.

    Progression ceased with the advent of the 1899 model of the first S&W pre-model 10. I don't do semi-autos but, if it were me, I would go with a factory .38 Super gun. May be a little more expensive, but at least you know it was factory built for the caliber regardless if Taurus or not.

The .460 needs more changes than the .45 super does.  The 45 super was designed so that with a heavier recoil spring you should be able to reliably shoot the round.  When you look at ammo descriptions, it will usually say that any oem .45 needs a heavier recoil spring for the round, and that is the only difference. 

I myself have never shot the taurus 1911.  I do like the fit.. but of course that is up to you.  I have seen nor heard anything which leads me to believe that it is weaker than any other 1911's out there.
