Is this common
« on: May 12, 2008, 08:19:33 PM »
I have a 22 hornet handi that is a factory original. Then a few months ago I bought a 30/06 brl from the classifieds. I shot it today for the first time. My question is, is it normal for a non factory fitted brl to fire and function perfectly without any modification. I did check it out first long before firing the rifle. The action will lock tight on my .015 feeler guage, and it fires and ejects just fine. Is this normal with used brls. If so I might have to find some more.

Thanks for any helpful responses

It happens a lot, enough that many rely on it,  but don't count on it all the time, you can always fit it if necessary or just sell it as many do here.  ;) I hope you mean it locks up on a .0015" blade,  .015" is way too lose.

I scored an almost perfect five for five.  One barrel had a burr on the latch shelf and wouldn't lock up.  A touch with a file and it locked up tight.

I bought a new .410 barrel from Skifastchad and was looking for an SB1 frame for it when I noticed my son's old 12 ga. Topper gathering dust in the back of a gun cabinet.  I bought it for him used almost 20 years ago.  I don't know why I tried it, but the .410 literally jumped onto that old frame.  Everything fit perfectly except the fore end is a little wide.  It turned that old, unused clunker into a really sweet utility gun with its 22 inch full choke.
