« on: February 19, 2008, 09:03:55 AM »
Any body have advise on a laminate stock on a budget.

It would be for my new 700 ADL 270win.

I can handle some sanding and finishing if it helps.

Boyds stocks sometimes have 2nds that are cheap.  I've been considering one of those laminates that has  high quaility walnut on the outside but cheaper stuff for filler.  They are much cheaper than the solid high grade wood.

Maybe nothing, maybe cleaning out one or two rounded inside corners in the bottom of the inletting with a small chisel, and clearancing around the trigger housing/side safety.

The barrel channel may not match the barrel contour of your rifle, and need either gouging out or glass bedding.

Parts Man - check our sponsor's list.  At least one Graybeard sponsor is a stockmaker.  Mikey.

GSI www.gunstocksinc.com is the sponsor and they don't appear to make them for the Remington Bolt guns. But ya might as Ed and see if they can copy yours using laminate. I'm not sure if they do or don't offer that service.

The laminate stocks I have are heavy compared to a solid piece of wood.

I got one of their stocks for a Ruger 77 project I did. I spent weeks sanding and fitting, the stock came very very rough. I'm talking they pulled it out of their machine cut the ends off and sent it to me. I wouldn't use them again.

Might want to check out eBay.  Usually can find a good deal on stocks there.  Just bought a new VSL takeoff for less than 1/2 that Rem wanted.  Check it out.

Here is one that I got for my Ruger MKII 7 mag, I just called Ruger and they sold it to me for $240, you can most likely contact Remington and do the same.
