It's a matter of seeing what works best in you particular rifle---grab some 130's--140's and 150's and see what gives you the best accuracy---then go from there.

Keep this in mind, it's not so much bullet weight as it also is bullet design and construction.  You really don't need super premium bullets on whitetails (like the Barnes X and Fail Safes) but other premium bullets, like Scirocco, Trophy Bonded, Nosler Partition, Hornady Interbond, etc. work great and I recommend them.

Plain jane bullets like Core-lokts and Power Points also work well, but I just have a preference for more "premium-type" bullets.

I'm going to give you a tack driver formula:

Nosler 130 BT
H4831SC  55.0 GR.

I can't tell you what your OAL should be, you will have to do that, about 10 thousands off the lands.

This will get my Howa and Tikka 270's 1 5/8" groups (5 shots) at 200 yards.

My son and I have killed quite a few whitetails with 130 grain bullets.  We use Nosler Ballistic Tips & Ballistic Silver Tips, Sierra Pro Hunters, Hornady SST's, and Speer Spitzers & Grand Slams.  The Ballistic Silver Tips don't expand as much as the others and the deer run farther, BUT, if you are planning on taking a lot of shots at running deer, they will give you more penetration at odd angles than any of the others mentioned except the Grand Slams.

But where I hunt in Alabama, the cover is unbelievably thick with sawbriars on either side of the power-line green fields I often hunt on.  So I want the deer to drop about in its tracks, so I take broadside shots whenever possible and use bullets that shoot flat and punch big holes.  And I know some are thinking there aren't big deer in Alabama, but this property has been in a very active deer management program for eight years now and we have killed several 230 to 275 lb deer on it.  Not as big as some places up north, but not scrubs either.

Only accurate rifles are interesting.
