Scope selection for a .223 Encore???
« on: July 13, 2003, 04:24:27 PM »
:?:I just bought a 26" .223 Encore barrel and I can't decide what scope to put on it.  I'm trying to stay under the $300 figure.  Any suggestions would be appreciated!  Thanks!

Hi :D

I'm in the same boat.  I'll be ordering my first Encore barrel tomorrow from FoxRidge, a 6mm Remington 24 inch Heavy Barrel, with Muzzle Tamer, Stainless Steel.

I've been debating over a Weaver or Nikon, Can't decide yet. Hopefully after a good night sleep. I can make up my mind.

I've been pouring over the spec sheets trying to decide.  One web site that I've found helpful is:

 http://www.riflescopes.com/

They have a wide array of products listed along with their prices. Might check them out.

Both the Nikon's and Weaver's are great scopes for the money.  I personally like the Weaver Grand Slam over the Nikon.  Their optics are outstanding and the Micro-Trac system makes the scope very accurate.  Don't get me wrong the Nikon Monarch is a great scope also.  Would recommend either one!  Good Luck with your choice.

longshot,

I too have a .223 Encore.  However, mine is wearing the 24" barrel instead of the 26".

I just ordered a Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16X40mm scope from Jon at The Optic Zone.  He's really competetive with his pricing and I was able to pick up this scope for about $330 shipped.  So, not a far stretch above your $300 mark.

If you've been here long enough at Graybeard Outdoors you've seen that the Bushnell Elite Series gets rave reviews.  I have an Elite 3200 3-9X40mm already and am very impressed with it's construction, clarity, and good looks.  Plus, can't beat the rainguard feature and lifetime no questions asked warranty.

Give the Elites a look at The Optic Zone.

I would go with a Bushnell Sportsman 3-9x40 in a matte finish.  Talk nice with your co-workers and you might get a deal!
