Cold Steel Belt Knife
« on: August 29, 2007, 04:40:18 PM »
Is anyone familiar with the original Canadian Belt Knife original made buy Russel then taken over by Grohmann? I see that Cold Steel has copied this knife and I ordered one today. I have many Cold steel knives and have never been disappointed with the money/quality of them. They say its made of 4116 Krupp steel which I am not real familiar with. I will give a report on it when I get a chance to test it a bit. It looked like a heck of a knife for under 20.00

Yep that's it. I have one as well. I also just picked up one of those in a folder by Grohmann. I am anxious to see how the CS compares.

The Belt knife got here today and all I can say is GOOD GRIEF. This it the sharpest best handling 15.00 Knife I have ever seen. If you want a first class knife without breaking the bank, I would suggest you check one out. Its 4116 Krupp Steel which is a German made steel well suited for kitch and boning knives. UIt has a RC hardness of 57-59 which should hold a good edge but also should resharpen without to much work. I am impressed and it seem they are coming with a line of knives in this steel. They are also replacing the old Carbon Five with a new more stain resistant steel.

This knife is made in Taiwan.

I have one these Cold Steel knives and I think it is okay. Mine did not come that sharp so I had to sharpen it when I got home. If you ever want another knife that is in that price range try a Mora. All of my Mora knives have come screaming sharp and hold an edge better than my Cold Steel belt knife and roach belly and they come in carbon steel (1095) and stainless (12C27). On another note Cold Steel no longer makes their Carbon V blades because Camillus no longer is in business and that is who was making the Carbon V for Cold Steel. I have a Camillus Rough Cut Tobacco Stockman that is marked Carbon V on the clip point blade.

You probably mean that Camillus is no longer making Carbon V blades for CS, since Camillus didn't manufacture steel.  Carbon V was/is CS's tradename for a carbon steel known as 0170-6, which is no longer made. However the same steel is still manufactured by another company and called 50100-b.  Case uses that in their Chrome Vanadium (CV) knives....good stuff.

My CS catalog says that The Belt Knife, Roach Belly and Finn Bear are made of 4116 Krupp. I just picked up the Finn Bear a couple days ago. I have a bunch of the old Carbon V blades. I also have several Mora knives and really like them. I am looking for a Mora 2000 but can/t find one at this time.

James,

I know of a couple places that have a Mora 2000 knife. The first is a website called www.ragweedforge.com. A friend of mine and myself included have ordered from this website and had great luck and the shipping is hard to beat especially if you order more than just one knife. If you Ebay there is seller whos' id is bensoutdoorproducts and he is a good seller to do business with as I have purchased items from him in the past and always had excellent service. He has 4 available at this time. If you type Mora 2000 knife in the search section of Ebay it will bring this knife up. I hope this helps and the Mora 2000 is one of my favorite Mora knives and it holds an edge really well and is easy to sharpen.

I cleaned two hogs and three deer this past season with the CS Canadian Belt Knife.    Rarely had to sharpen it.   that Krupp steel is phenomenal.   And all for $15.

There is a place called The knife center store of the internet I just bought all three of these low cost CS knives. The roach belly the belt knife and the finn bear all are priced at $ 11.95 each plus S&H. You cant have too many knives.
