Hello
I often come across factory
S&W Grips while at gun shows and this one was no exception and I Usually will buy them if they are in Nice shape as Factory wood grips are geting very hard to find these days. I found two set's of Factory grips one being a set of The small magna smooth presentation style to fit a Round Butt-J-frame and the same seller had a set of Factory large Checkered-N-Sq. Frame target grips. I had Bought some brass from him at a Previous show, so he just about Gave me the grips at
$10.00 for both sets. The -J- Round frame set was nice enough they found their way right on my Daily Carry Pre-30 revolver chambered in .32 S&W Long as I had the Original Diamond service grips serial numbered to the gun on it, and did not want to ruin them, so they replaced them. While talking to the same Vendor I asked if he had any more
grips or possibly Factory Box's at home that he wanted to sell ? He said he had one factory box that he would bring in on Sunday to sell, but no more grips. I showed at his table early on Sunday morning and he handed me the box shown. I have never seen a box like this, and suspect it was a
salesman sample as the Outer sleeve goes over the Styro-Foam inner boxes that a gun was shipped in. I did not pay much attention to it as his low price of
$5.00 was very reasonable, and I had never seen one like it before. After I made the Deal on the K-38 shown above on Tuesday after the show I was Placing it in my Gun safe and went to move this Old Box I had bought, when I noticed the
end flap Factory SKU and it said that the original gun it contained was
Indeed a K-38 with a 6" Barrel Blued, with Target grips. It also showed a serial number of the original Used gun that was in it, and it was not all that far off the one that I have bought & I found is Unusual that the box I had Bought was actually correct for the K-38 I bought later that came with no Factory Box. You never know what you will come across at these gun shows, so it pays to be alert. Regards, Hammerdown
