American Arms O/U
« on: February 22, 2008, 06:22:46 AM »
I have an American Arms Silver II O/U 12 ga. w/ screw in chokes & 3" chambers.  I used to quail hunt with it but there aren't very many quail in my area anymore. Can anyone tell me if the company is still in operation. The company was in north Kansas City, Mo. but the gun was made in Spain. Also what would the gun be valued at? I would say it is about 80 to 85%. Nothing wrong with the way it works just a few scratches and dings.

Not sure if the importer is still at it.

I check the auction sites just to see approximate value.  Gun values always seem kind of dynamic.

for comparison currently on gunbroker-

American Arms Silver 1 over under 12ga    0bids  $525.00  11h 52m +

American Arms Silver Lite 12 ga 26" Bbl #026   0bids  $600.00  1d 3h +

American Arms O/U     0bids  $400.01  2d 6h +

American Arms Silver 12 Ga 26" Quail Unlimited   0bids  $529.99  4d 1h +

American Arms, Silver 1, CLEAN GUN! 0bids  $599.00  5d 4h +

Dunno if they are still being made but don't think they are still being imported. I had one in 28 gauge very long ago. It looked and felt OK but danged if I could hit a bull in the butt with it for some reason. Mine was really rough opening and needed a lot of smoothing up. I didn't consider it to be a very well made gun really. I paid $250 for it at a gun show and was not able to get that much back for it when I decided I was tired of it.

There is no way under the sun I'd put the kinda money into one that the folks on Gun Broker are wanting. You can get far better guns than them for that kinda money on the used market.

Probably why all the ones I saw had 0 bids at those prices.  Looks like you at least hit that bull in the butt.   ;)

The one I have is the only one I have been around but it shoots good and works fine in every way. I've looked at some Red Labels and Citoris at gun shows and shops and couldn't see that they worked any smoother or better. Especially for the difference in price. I don't know whether I got the exception or you did but I like mine just fine. I just don't use it much anymore. Doesn't sound like there is much of a market for them though. Oh well, it isn't eating anything.

Mine functioned fine once I smoothed up the action using JB Bore Paste. That stuff works wonders on stiff doubles whether SxS or O/U. This one likely was abused and not properly lubed by a previous owner as it was the worse I've ever ran into but it smoothed up OK. Me and it just didn't get along and it obviously didn't shoot where I was looking or I didn't look where it was shooting.  :o

I think I shot the worse scores with it I've ever shot with any gun I've owned. Someone else might now own it and think it shoots perfectly for them. It was functional and if me and it worked together I'd have kept it. Me and the Ruger Red Labels are the same. They look and feel good to me but I just cannot hit with them.
