Price check .22 Hornet
« on: January 31, 2008, 07:49:01 AM »
Today I found a Model 157 Handi with the full Manlicher stock. The entire firearm is in 95% condition, has an AP serial number which I think places it in 1976. Chambered in .22 Hornet and will be sold at an auction. Can any of you give me an idea what this should bring? Sweet little gun and in a round that I like. I believe it is an extractor as opposed to an ejector.

Thanks for your input,
Lucky Joe

$225 - $250.  I had one and just sold it on GBO.  Get it if you can, you won't be disappointed.

I would be surprised if it was an extractor. Does it go click when broke open if it does it's an ejector or if it don't go click a very dirty or busted ejector. I bought the one woodchuchuntr sold I put a vintage weaver V8 scope on it and shot it today had a couple of 2 hole 3 shot groups sighting it in. It's a keeper. Kurt

I don't know if they made an extractor back then.  It could be a dirty ejector or a modified one.

PHATINJUN,  I'm happy that you are happy with the gun.  What load are you using?  I have a vintage V8 that is looking for a new home, do you have any idea of it's value?

bob i did a google search the other day on v8 they seem to range from 50-150 if they have the triple cross hairs the one for 150+ looked brand new out of the box finish... i gave60 for mine and it's a little faded but perfect glass. i am using hornady 35 gr v-max factory ammo til i get supplies to reload for it. do you recall ever slugging this bbl. i got a box of vintage remington .223 45 gr 22 hornet bullets to use if it has the tighter bore that the early hornets had. kurt

Thanks for the replies fellows, and don't worry about hijacking this thread. Keep talking about the Hornet Handi's. Didn't know the early one's had such a tight bore, interesting.

joe after digging into this smaller groove dia deal it appears what i have read says most were produced prior to WWII but to be sure we should slug the bore which i will do when my hand heals. also found something else interesting or maybe it's nothing but i can find no mention of the 22 hornet in po ackleys hand book for shooters and reloaders and find that very curious as he shows many strange 22 cal loads and cartridges that i have never heard of. i am gonna pose that? over at the reloading forum. don't let your hornet get away buy it. also does the bbl of the one you are looking at say model 157 stamped on it. kurt

Kurt,

I never slugged it.  Just shot .224 dia bullets.  Thanks for the info on the V8.  The V8 just looks right on that gun, it has the vintage look.
