NEW Handi NUT
« on: January 25, 2008, 06:34:20 AM »
Hi  I guess I'm the newest Nut ::)! ZX11 from Pa. I started reading about the Handi's and within 2 day's was the Proud owner of 3 of them a  7mm08  270 and a 243. Then I remembered my first gun was a H&R 12 Ga. I looked around and found it a Topper Model 158 AG 1970. I do have a ? I've read where you can not put a Rifle barrel on a shotgun receiver But just for the fun of it I tried all 3 barrels I have and they fit prefect,No Play at all. Is it possible to get the receiver Heat Treated enough to handle the rifle barrels? Yes and by the way this is ONE GREAT FORUM!! ;D THANKS

Welcome!  ;)  Unfortunately no, modern SB2 rifle frames are investment cast alloy, the M158 is ductile iron, commonly called cast iron. There are other difference in the firing pin and frame surrounding hole that make  shotgun frames unsuitable for rifle pressures.

Nice little family you have there, and I am sure it will grow.
Rifle barrels on SB-1 (or pre SB-1) are not recommended, and are enter at own risk. Even if they fit up... I know, it's tempting. Just lay down another $90 or so for a new SB-2 receiver.
