Used Sako .300 Win Mag for $475 - good deal?
« on: August 02, 2003, 07:45:48 AM »
Found a used Sako .300 Win Mag, probably around 95%, old style, not the new hunter model.  Has iron sites, sako dovetails, etc.  I can get it for $475.  Seems good to me.

What do you guys think?

Tom

I looked it up in a Gun Traders Guide I've had two years and it says it's a good price. Dave

....If the throat of the barrel looks ok then it would be a good deal....many/most mags aren't shot enough to harm them but some do get ate up by hot loads fired quickley........the caliber is a good steady seller and has good selection of ammo....the rings for the sako dovetail are expensive but very secure........all the sakos that I have had have shot well and some fantastic......triggers are good/great and adjustable.......if it suits your needs and calls out to you then go for it!!!! and enjoy the smooth solid action and good workmanship of the Sakos.......good luck and good shooting!!!

Ask for a 48 hour, money back guarentee. Shoot it and if it shoots well buy it. If no guarentee keep looking around. I sell stuff that way (cars, guns, etc.) that way I can assure what I'm selling is good.

Tom :  To get a actual what is it worth it would be better to have a model # also but for the most part what you are describing is a good deal with a little more info on the rifle it could be a great deal. :D   JIM

If you like the caliber it is a great deal.  I have never seen or heard of a Sako that did not shoot well.  Where I live you cannot touch any Sako for under 595.00.  But if you can have a knowledgable buddy ck it out (unless you are that knowledgable).

Well, upon further review - it is a Finnbear in .300 Win Mag.  Stock is in such good condition, it must have been refinished, although if so, they did a good job.  Recoil pad is harder then a rock.  Blueing on the barrel is only 50%, reciever is around 95% blue.  Barrel is dirty, so can't tell if it's pitted or not.  Has front site base but not the sight itself.  I passed on it for the time being.....

Tom

Tom, good choice.  The ones I have seen for the price were mint.  Sounds  like this one was rode hard and put away wet.

Tom….

My Godson just got a BRAND NEW Tikka for $600… and it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

It has a high Monte Carlo roll over cheek piece, beautiful walnut stock, perfect hand-checkering, perfectly done bluing and an owner-adjustable trigger.

It’s about the most sleek, most beautiful rifle I have ever seen.  If I were going to buy another rifle, it would be a NEW Tikka just like my Godson’s!

...And another one comes into the fold. I tell you boys and girls, the Tikkas (not necessarily the T3) have really turned heads the last couple years. What other rifle can you find that has a guarenteed MOA out of the box for under $600? With a baby-butt smooth action and adjustable crisp trigger. They are really worth a look for anyone looking to buy a new rifle.
