Need Experienced Stoeger SxS knowledge
« on: January 03, 2008, 03:15:46 AM »
 Ok Guys ,

Got one of these dandy little pepper guns (because i have wanted one for years and for the Missus ) after wanting one for quite sometime ,Figured it would work good for the houses' go to gun.. Got to shoot it the afternoon of new years .. And      ...   Well  ..
Was a little pissed .... The first barrel (right side) would fire the shells fine ,But the second (left side ) would *click* and leave a weak dimple on the primer ... Upon a crack of the barrels to reset the triggers it would fire it , but not after i had shot the first tube before i pulled the trigger for the second barrel ... Anyone else experience this problem ?? I would not even let it enter my mind , Leaving my other half and little one to be protected by a unreliable weapon... So goes with out saying , Need a fix ...

Any advice or help on this would be more then greatly appreciated..

Thanks in advance and regards ,

I seem to recall that's a not so uncommon malady of that gun. Go to the Benilli site and look at the forums there. I used to have it book marked but don't anymore. They have a forum for the Stoegers and at least at one time there were so pretty knowledgeable folks posting there that came up with a fix for it. From what the folks said over there customer service is HORRIBLE and you're better off fixing it yourself or having a local smith do it.

I owned 2 of their uplander SXS models, the main spring that runs the ejector also runs the firing mechanism and is made of cheap steel that wears VERY quickly,I returned my first one, they gave me a new one, same problem right out of the box,I returned it and the shop quit stocking them after several returns. If it is an ejector model try removing the ejectors and taking some of the load off the spring, then shoot it.
If it aint fair chase its FOUL,and illegal in my state!

Much thanks for the help and intel GB & Nonya,

I spoke with my local gun shop that I purchased it from and thier response was send it to stoeger ..... Soooooo , Guess I'll check out the benneli site before I go the route of sending it to them on my own dime..

Thanks again guys I'll be sure to let you all know what I find out and how this fares , Kinda bummed though ... A gun that I have to repair right outta the box ...Starting to think I should have duct taped two used padners together and spent the extra loot saved on shells for the Missus to practice with heh

Here is the correct link. Unless they've removed it the fix should be there from a year or two back as there was a fair bit of discussion back then on the subject as I recall but I've not visited there in a while.

There is a known problem with stoeger SxS caused by the action not locking completely and causing the left barrel to misfire. If you don't get satisfaction from Stoeger, you may want to contact Coyote Cap. After he finishes, you won't recognize you gun. He is known in SASS as one of the premium gunsmiths. He can retime the shotgun so that the lug engages completely and eliminates the problem totally. ;D
