ATR has made its first kill!!
« on: November 25, 2007, 07:48:28 AM »
This is the best cheapest gun I have ever bought. I have put about 600 rounds through my ATR 30-06 with not a bit of trouble. I put a 10x40x50 tactical scope and zeroed it in at 200 yrds and 300 that is the furthest I can go at my shooting range. The first time out deer hunting this year I was put to the test. A buck walked out across the hay meadow where I saw them last year just out of reach 500 yrds. At 425 yrds he was walking broad side to me I pull my bi-pod down zeroed for 300 and laid down and took aim a little higher and to the left to adjust for windage. I squeezed on the trigger the 30-06 rang out and then a second or two later the 150 gr SST popped as it hit him knocking him over. He got up and ran about 100 yrds before falling down. The bullet drifted about 4 inches further than I thought hitting him in the neck. For the money these Mossberg rifles that I have are probably the best guns I have ever owned I think a 25-06 4x4 is next. Sorry for such a long paragraph but I had to tell some one.

Congratulations and outstanding shooting.

Glad to hear from another happy ATR owner.  They are for real.

If you get the chance read back a few pages.  You'll find several others who like their ATR's as well.

Keep us posted if you pick up a 4X4.

Again,  Good Job!     ;)

Hey 4wheeling79:

Great to hear that someone with a ATR is having a good experience.  I just bought one off GunBrokers.com, anticipationg delivery any day...

Plan to have it rigged out and sighted in by Robert E. Lee's Birthday weekend tirp to Alabama for a season ending Deer Hunt!!!

My Buddy at the Gun Shop I frequent (one of thre three here in town) says they have problems and Mossberg will not fix them...

May just be that they like Rugers and Remingtons, which I like and have owned in the past...

I'll be pokin around talking to others also!

Happy New Year!!!

Happy Hunting!
SCREAM A LITTLE and I'll see you at the lake, around the beach, on the mountain & in the woods on this side or the other... Ron

Could ask your buddy at the gun shop what type of problems the Mossbergs have?

If there have been any issues with the ATR, those of us here that own them would like to hear what they are.     ;)

Hey All:

Got my 30-06 Stainless, Black Synthetic, popped a BSA Silver Deer Hunter 3-9x40 on it; sighted it 100 yards hitting about 1.5" high - Sweet Shooter, oh and by the way my buddy at the gun shop kinda hemmed and hawed - could not give me specific problems so much for his opinion.

This rig will be my primary hunter in the fall, plan to top it with my Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10x50 Rainguard, Illuminated Reticle; 30mm Tube - Clearest piece of glass I have ever used!

Plan to hunt this weekend in Northport Alabama with the ATR... Wish me luck!  Final Gun hunt of the year (still have one more weekend after that in Georgia with a Bow ;D!!!

Thank you for the follow up with your Buddy.  Perhaps he just formed an opinion based on others comments or what he may have read.  Either way, I'm glad there was nothing in particular he identified as an issue with the Mossbergs.

Just a note of interest.   I've recall two issues with the ATR's.  The first was from, I believe, a member here at GB's who had a swivel mount break.  The second was at a gun shop.  An employee mentioned they had an ATR with a magazine feed problem.  The rifle was returned to Mossberg and repaired.  He did not elaborate on what caused the problem.

Congratulations on your stainless ATR.  It would be great to see a picture of it.   :)

Good luck on your hunt.  Be safe.  ;)

I'm the one who broke the swivel mount and it was entirely my fault. Had the swivel against the back support on my Outers Varmiteer rest when sighting the rifle in. Mossberg offered to replace the stock if I would send it in, but I didn't really think it was worth the effort. I put standard screw in swivel in the forearm and buttstock and never looked back. A little common sense on my part and would never have had the problem in the first place.

Thanks very much for clarifying that, greenjeans.  ;)

It probably would have also happened to me under the same circumstances.     :D
