Just got a new bow made by Monster bow. The model is the Phoenix. What a sweet bow. No more wheels/cams etc... Chose your let off %, wide draw wt range and draw length range. Pick your own colors. This is the bow I've been waiting for.

This looks very similar to a bow I owned back in the 90's. Onieda Eagle....a different cable system though. I got away from it and went to a Mathews (when most people were afraid to buy one, now everyone owns one) because when released it made a loud snapping sound....even though it was one of the fastest bows on the market I felt this was a big disadvantage when hunting as whitetails have great reflexes.
How's the Monster Phoenix when it comes to quietness upon release? I don't have much knowledge on these bows other than seeing the specs on their web site. The specs do look good on this bow and it seems light....my Onieda was approx 4 1/2 lbs before I added anything to it....another reason I opted for a Mathews.

I love the looks of your new bow!!! Let us know how she shoots.

One more question, are these made in the USA? I couldn't find anything if it is or isn't.
That would be a big turn off for me if it's made anywhere but here in the USA.

I had seen lots of Onieda's and was never impressed by them . . . too complicated and noisy. But when my hunting buddy got his Phoenix I saw him shoot it and was very impressed. Weight was under 4#'s. Smoother than any cam bow I have ever shot and I have shot a lot of them over the years. The bow I sold, to get this was a Mathews. It was, what I felt was their smoothest called the Conquest. I had that bow longer than any bow in my life . . .about 5 years. I still really like Mathews but prefer the Phoenix. Perfect center shot, quiet and good speed. In fact, I think the Phoenix when tested ranked identical in the decibel level with Mathews quietest bow. They are made in Michigan. Just look under Monster Bow and you should see their site.

Nice, and I totally agree about the Oneida's.....heavy and loud!! How much have you shot the Phoenix?
Does it stay in tune? I don't see any dealers listed, did you have to order straight from the company?

I've been shooting mine for about 3 weeks now. Have had no problems with it staying in tune. Any and all adjustments are made with 2 allen wrenches. Mine is set up with a Whisker biscut rest, for hunting, and I am shooting with a release off of the bowstring. My buddy shoots the same thing only with a string loop. He has had his for several months with no problems. Right now you can order thru Monster bows for the Phoenix or get on the list for the Dragon which is a longer version of the Phoenix. There are also guys getting set to be dealers.

Go on their site and start asking questions. These are a great bunch of guys who are more than happy to share everything they know and have experienced with these bows. You will notice I have been on there asking questions and gotten great responces.

The Monster Bows Phoenix resembles an Oneida but its design and function is dramatically different...the Oneida used a lever action limb to pull over four cams through an intricate systems of braided steel cables and a wire binary timing system running through the handle...here is an Onieda

A phoenix is a lever/lever action bow....no cams, cables, timing wheels, cable guards, nada nada nada... It transfers the draw weight from the limbs to bowstring to split FF shoot thru cable harness...

I have shot one for 18 mos and still am "blown away" by these bows... Total centershot, no torque, no hand shock, and the bow is pushing 300fps IBO!!!!

....super quiet and only 3.5# physical weight...These bows are so aweet to shoot you can't put them down...

There has been a waiting list for these bows as each one is hand assembled but that is almost up to speed...I will be a dealer next month as they will start going "Dealer" sales soon. They have a longer ATA model coming soon in 2008 called the Dragon... my website is northwoodsadventures.net

PS... The shoot thru harness and bowstring are 8125 Dyneema and will last over 30,000 shots!!!!

The bows come with a 10 yr garauntee and the MSRP is only $675. There are several color /camo and grip options... The basic bow covers 26.5 to 31" DLs with easy adjustments...no press or special tools needed...just a couple allen wrenches...

Weight choices are 30-60 and 50 to 80#...

For what it's worth, I also shoot a Phoenix, and love it. I sold a Mathews Q2 for it, and seriously doubt I'll get another bow. One thing that I really love is how adjustable the bow is. It'll go between 26 and 31" in draw length without needing any extra parts. The draw weight is quite versatile, and the let-off will go up to 90+% safely (it'll go to 100%, but that's a really bad idea as it will lock up the bow).

The only issue I've had is remembering that the outboard limbs move a good bit. If you shoot sitting down or in close quarters, make sure that the limbs won't hit anything when you release. I missed a shot on a deer this year because the lower limb hit my leg while I was taking a sitting shot and I wound up with a deep bruise that lasted for over a month. Even still, I wouldn't trade this bow for any other. It's freakin' great!

The speed is very slow.

If they want to succeed in today's archery market they will need to introduce a much faster bow.

Good or bad >>>---------> SPEED SELLS and slow bows just go away.

Not that I am a speed freak in archery but I know the industry and that is what all the manufactures are using to sell their "gizmo bows"
I myself use and prefer low poundage 47-50 lbs long axle to axle and slower arrow speed and rely on good shooting form to pound out the X's on a target.

By who's standards? The new Mathews claims 322 fps(approx)....not that much of difference.
Slow in my opinion is 250 fps or less in todays archery standards, but you can still kill just as many deer with one at 250fps than you can with one at 322fps.

In the archery world, that 22 fps is a large number. You have to remember that it is not a gun where 22 fps in nothing - Its a bow -.
Yes you can kill a lot of animals with a 250 fps bow and many have, my point is that it is on the slow side for today's bows. I did not say they were junk or anything, its just odd that a new bow manufacture would introduce a bow that is its main line and have it be on the bottom end of average for speed, Speed for which is one of the biggest selling points for a company to advertise their new "archery gidget".

I am not even a proponent of "you need to have the fastest bow" I am a target archer and hunter and do not have a fast bow by any means, Mine is rated at 310 IBO BUT I don't shoot 70 pounds, I shoot 47-50 pounds which makes my target bow very slow but very good on the X count.

Anyway.....Longwinters - Troll my a$$ ! I have a great deal of experience in the archery industry as well as tournament archery, I am quite sure I know bows, shooting them, selling them, working on them. I've probably built more bow strings than you have shot your bow. So don't be so free to toss out the "troll" issue in regards to me. I was just stating My opinion about their bows speed, It might very well be a great hunting bow and you might really like it, thats great enjoy it.

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and my own opinion is that wheels look better on cars and bikes than on bows.

As far as speed goes, I understand the point that faster bows might sell better. Perhaps. But MBI isn't marketing this bow as a speed freak. It's being marketed as a highly accurate hunting bow that anyone can work on anywhere with only two little allen wrenches (no press). They are working on a fast bow for those more interested in speed. I think their ultimate plan is to have a range of bows so that everyone can find one they like.

I am very curious to have you tell us which compound bow you think is beautiful? I think the simplicity and graceful recurve lines are refreshing...

The top liine wheelie bows, especially with all the pulleys , cables, string leeches, cable guards, string bumpers and all the other gizmos hanging off them...not to mention big ol wheels on the top and bottom as big as salad bowls...

dont look too simple to me?

You know I shouldnt have said the troll thing. Not sure why when i read your post I took it as a "black thread" trying to ruin a friendly discussion. As I read it now I dont see that so apologies come your way.

I dont know what your experience is but I have been shooting bow for about 29 years. And though I have never shot for a Manufacturer I have shot for a pro-shop, won some leagues and tournies along the way.. Owned quite a few bows over the years by all the major manufacturers.

You are right, speed sells. I dont consider a proven 300fps slow on a none tricked out bow but . . . I traded a Mathews (and I like them alot) to get this bow. Monster bows may not be every ones cup of tea, but the qualities I listed earlier will draw shooters. Besides speed, top name shooters sell bows as well as lots of magazine and t.v advertising. It took Mathews years to get to where they are now, people were not sure what they thought of their ideas of a cam and a wheel on a compound. But it certainly changed the archery world.

From my point of view compounds are getting as ugly as they were back in the 70's when they had the hangers etc...Now that was ugly. . .and alot of the new ones are following suit with their riser styles etc... I think the only really good looking bows are the recurves and longbows. But the Monster bows have really grown on me.
