tasco world class plus? is it better than a world class?
« on: January 22, 2008, 04:19:16 PM »
Obviously, the Marketing people at Tasco thought that the "plus" would make a difference, but does anyone know what the deal is?

My FIL has a stainless finish 3-9 Tasco World Class Plus.  It looks alright, but no big whoop.

Thought that it would do well on 243 or 7-08............but have been happy with Trophy 3-9 on 357 Mag.  Got a fistfull of those, actually.

Not sure what the difference is but I have a couple of 3x9x44 World Class Plus Tascos and I think they are good scopes. Haven't had any trouble with either of them. I also own Leupold and Nikon scopes and can't see that they are much better. I haven't seen any Plus's listed in any catalogs lately so I'm not sure if they are still made or not. I've had mine for over 10 years. I don't own anything larger than a 270 Win. so I can't say how they would hold up on a hard kicker.

I've owned several Tasco scopes and binoculars and I've used them for over 40 years. I've had only one scope go bad and the company replaced it. I agree that usually you get what you pay for and there are better quality scopes on the market but some of us can't afford the expensive ones so I'm gad someone makes them for us that are financially impaired.

In 30 years I have only seen 2 scopes break, both were leupolds.  I actually like Tasco's, even more than my bushnells.

Older Japan made Tascos are much sought after, they had excellent glass and were made well, the antiquated lens coatings are the only issue, they aren't up to the same specs as even the cheapest glass made now that is fully multi-coated, good/poor coatings can make or break an optic as far as performance in light transmission.  Bushnell is the current owner of Tasco and has improved their quality over the intermediate owners that gave Tasco the name Trashco and its poor reputation after Japanese Tascos ceased production.

I have one that was purchased in the early 70s. It has been through hell and back, it's been dropped and banged around so much it looks terrible but it still works as good as any scope I've ever owned. It is a 4x32 with a post reticule. I've never seen another like it but I'm sure they are out there. It was made in Japan but I'm not sure about the other ones I own.

Got a goofy friend who exclusively uses World Class Tascos...on his Weatherbys...up to .378.  Good gravy, I'd tell him, get a better scope.  Nope, he'd reply, this is fer all them fancy SOBs think their scopes makes er breaks a hunt.  And he's never had a failure.  Bless the old guy.  ;D
