Banner Slug Gun Scope
« on: January 06, 2008, 11:28:27 AM »
Well, I was thinking of spending a little of money and buying a scope for my 45-70 Handi-rifle.  I saw a Bushnell Banner 1.5x4 power with 6” eye relief for 89.00 in Cabelas.  Anyone have any experience with a scope like this?  Should I be able to mount it forward without the eye piece hitting the hammer?  Any advice is greatly appreciated!

i have one on my .45-70 22". you will still have the same problems as all other scopes. you MIGHT be able to get it pretty far forward but i dont think you can get it far enough front to not interfere with the hammer.

The entire Banner line is a lot of scope for the money, the only bad part is the huge power ring dictates high rings or a hammer mod, I just checked my 1½-4½x32 which is almost identical in overall length to the shotgun scope, it will mount enough forward of the hammer to clear in medium high Burris Signature rings on an Ultra rail if you have one, but they don't sell em any more. I'd check with Jon at TOZ, he doesn't list it, but the other Banners are less than $70 and SWFA lists it for $70, so Jon should have it too, he's a GBO sponsor, SWFA isn't.

EDIT: Sorry, I goofed and grabbed a pair of high Signture rings, I don't think the ocular bell will clear in medium rings, but I'll try em when I find em!! I'll post a pic in a minute.

Quick, do you think that I need the 6" if I only load trapdoor and maybe lever loads?  Would 4" be fine and allow me to work with standard rail and maybe med. rings?

4" is plenty for trapdoor loads, even levergun loads unless you're a stock creeper, :D my minimum is 3½". ;)

I would guess then that the standard rail would work fine.  Can I get by with med rings or would I need the higher ones?

The medium Signatures will be too low, they're .270" tall compared to .420" for the high, here's a pic of the same scope mounted conventionally in mediums with the hammer cut down to clear.
