Did any of you notice that the new mags are listed as being on SB2 frames in the new catalog. Dale

If it is differnt I wonder why they would not call it a SB3 frame then. Looks like problems down the road then. Dale

Yeah, now they are going to have at least 4 different SB2 frames. Don't make any sense to me, but maybe they can't count any higher than 2???

Pre-1999 SB2 frame. (asterisk * frame)
Post -1999 SB2 frame.
10ga/12ga USH SB2 frame.
2008 "Magnum" SB2 frame.

Yep, can't count any higher than 2.

They don't give a rip if you know what barrel can go on what frame, they only care if they know.  Remember, all barrels must be factory fit, remember?   Larry

From previous discussions, the mag frames are the same design made with a stronger alloy and heat treatment. ;)

Their testing was done on current production frames with no issues, hopefully we'll be able to get barrels fitted to our late model frames. I suspect they'll be long throated tho.

Tim

That part isn't correct, the magnum frames are a tougher alloy and different heat treat, so the mag barrels can't be fitted to current frames.

Sorry for the mis info.

When I talked to Gordon in mid november (the 19th) he told me the mags were then being tested on standard SB2 frames, This was first of the times I called about my 500.    and he said that as far as he knew i could have my 500 SB2 frame fitted for one.  ???     i dunno i will email him on monday.

They did test the standard SB2 frames, but they failed when they developed cracks across the breech face. :o

That testing was done on the short mags, cracks in the breech face near the firing pin,  dunno what the outcome was for the standard mags, but the mag frames are improved over the standard SB2 frames, dunno yet about changes in the mag barrels themselves, as I learn more, I'll post it. ;)

Yeah, but not everyone gets to read everything, so it could easily have been missed. ;) And who knows, by the time Remington gets their hands in this, the Handi-mags may not happen or be delayed, unfortunately stuff changes, the 3-barrel combos come to mind, they were in the catalog or online too, but only a limited production of them was ever made. :-\

More often than not companies are taken over by folks with more money than brains so you never know what they'll do. One thing is for sure though is that the 'bean counters' will be set to work on the 'new' company to consolidate the offerings and then 'cut cut cut'. I hope that they have some respect for the Remington, Marlin and NEF/H&R traditions so that the main models and skilled people are retained.

The std. frames not being strong enough is hardly a new discovery.
