An old box of knives my dad gave me... Help!
« on: June 16, 2003, 09:23:25 AM »
Hello to all..
My dad recently gave me a box full of old knives and pocket knives, some of which are known to have been made in the 1930's.  The item I need help identifying is a small "possibly ladies pocket tool" that is 2 3/4" in length, with a slight diamond shape to the case, and real mother of pearl inlays on the case.  There are 5 tools:  a shoe hook, tweezers, letter opener, and two tools similar to a leather punch/cuticle scraper.  There are no actual blades on the piece. Every surface on the tool is covered in scrimshaw, both sides of each individual tool as well.  The main pattern is flowers.  There are no identifying marks to indicate year or manufacturer.  It came from my great-great-grandmother from up in Pennsylvania.  I'm not even sure when shoe hooks were discontinued or not used anymore to get a rough age on it.  Can anyone help?? I don't know what to call this item to search for it on the web, best guess is a multifunction pocket tool.  It is in perfect shape with no cracks and only a bit of grime to clean off.  Thanks for the help!

You might want to try posting on bladeforums.com. They are the big knife site. Lots of good info.
