The way I understand it a ackley improved will generaly give you a increased case capacity of about 8% and a increase in velocity of bout 2% (in other words 70fps). Is it worth the cost of the rechamber ?(This is from memory but should be close)

223 AI

Robert I do not have a 223 AI however in my opinion if a rechamber is what you want go to a 222 Rem mag Imp. The 222 Rem has about 5% more capacity than the 223 to start with add 4% more with the imp and stronger brass and you have a winner. I have a 222 Rem mag imp and it is a super gun. I really like it and it is very accurate. It shoots 50 grain Rem hollow points at about 3600 with no pressure signs. You can use 223 AI dies to resize it. Why settle for 223 AI when you can get that in a standard 222 Rem Mag imp. case. Just my opinion.

....thanks Mike... I am just doing the research to see what it will be.  What is the rate of twist in your 222AI?  My .223 seems to be a 1 in 12.  Will this twist work with the 222 mag AI in a 21" barrel?

You can't chamber a T/C 223 to a 223 Ackley.  If your gunsmith tells you you can, run away.  To properly set up the Ackley chamber you need a crush fit for new brass.  The barrel needs set back about .010".  As far as velocity goes, I got a hugh increase with mine usign 40g bullets.  Mine is in a Rem 700 and am getting over 4000 fps with a 26" barrel and a 40g bullet.

Robert, Sounds like you're no longer interested in a 223 AI Contender barrel, but IF you are, there's one for sale here: http://pub6.bravenet.com/classified/show.php?usernum=466293398
BTW, I've already bought the 257 JDJ, Leupold scope, and Burris scope mentioned in the ad.  Gary T.
