38-55 barrel question
« on: October 28, 2007, 07:51:19 AM »
I have a SB2 in 30-06 and was wondering if a 38-55 barrel can be fitted to the action?
The barrel itself does it come drilled and tap or wears a factory peep sight.
I also would like if I can send the action in by itself with out the wood stock : the Cinnamon stock I have is super mint would hate to get a scratch on it.
I have not checked there web site but was wondering how much is it for the 38-55 barrel fitted to the action?

The 38-55 barrel can be fitted to any frame made since 1987, it's drilled and tapped for a scope rail as are ALL rifle barrels, the accessory barrel comes without sights as stated on the acc barrel page, so if you want the WGRS or one of the FP sights, better order one too as well as a front sight. They ask for a stock set to be sent, but that's up to you, personally, I order a stock set for mine with the barrel.

Price is listed on their web site, add $25 for fitting and shipping.

Tim: I think I will place an add in the WTB section may get one complete with sights;I am looking to load B/P with the 38-55
I know there is a sticky on barrel fitting.I know you must of fitted a few barrels on your own.How hard are they to fit as a do it yourself project?

Depends on how far off the fit is, some need considerable work, many choose not to go that route and just sell the barrel in hopes of getting another that fits better. Others lock up and fit fine, just depends. I think the newer barrels have better chambers on them, bores are still on the large size, but Handirifle had no chamber issues with his, but many have on older barrels, necks that were too tight to be able to chamber the bullets that shoot good in the oversize bore. If I wanted one now, I'd get one fitted instead of buying a used one. ;)

Tim: on placing a order with them on the 38-55 do you have to state on the order forum you would like a front and rear peep installed?
(the standard peep) not the upgrade.

I'd give em a call on the front sight and get a part number and cost, but yes, you need to state what you want on the order. The WGRS part number is in the FAQs on the retail parts price list page.
