Whoa, it binds with 38s too? Does the case go all the way into the chamber so that the rim touches the cylinder?

Either that cylinder is too long, or the frame is uneven behind it. The case heads are catching on the frame behind the cylinder, right? I bet it's the cylinder. Oddly, I can't find any place that sells cylinders for any of the 600 series revolvers. Wonder why.

Anyway, this is only for my own curiosity.

You're going to have to politely and firmly explain to their customer service that they could not have investigated the problem you described, because it persists, and it's very obvious, and very easy to test. When you send it back this time, fill the chambers with empty, unprimed cases, and bind that sucker up good. Mark the frame and the cylinder so you know if they touched it, and maybe even the cases, too.

I'd also take pictures of the gun to see if they send to the Chip and Nick, the ham-fisted revolversmiths. But that's just me, and I like a good argument.

just a note to the above. If you send a gun to them w/cases in the chambers, they may not touch it all, and send it right back. I sure wouldn't want a loaded gun sent to me. (how do I know it's not if I can't open it and can see cartridge cases in it?)

I'd do it like this: "I tested to see if it was fixed with empty cases, but then the cylinder bound up. I figured I'd better let a gunsmith take a look at it instead of trying to force it."

Friend went through this a while back with different caliber. After giving up on Taurus, took it apart and found hand too long that rotates cylinder. Also face of frame had some high spots, after both problems were corrected by him gun shoots and works great. You shouldn't have to do those kind of repairs on a new gun reguardless of who builds it. Should have been caught at the factory before sending it out the first time. No way that gun was ever test fired.

Well I no longer have the problem. I went back to the dealer today and he gave me a full refund. I told him I was just tiered of messing with it. He can send it back and fight with them. Make my next one a Ruger. ;)

After further thought I think the cylinder was not straight as it would rotate a little ways then bind. If you opened the cylinder and turned it past that spot it would rotate about half way around then start binding again.
shot placement is everything.

James,
No matter what the problem was, you're better off without it.  You did the right thing and I'm really glad that the dealer gave you all your money back too.  Enjoy shopping for a ruger.

If you are thinking of buying the new 1911, don't bother. Mine is back to them for the second time. 52 rounds of factory ammo and broke, sheared the locking lugs on both the slide and barrel. They put another barrel in it and sent it back with sheared slide lugs, and the new barrel binding in the bushing. Claimed they put 56 rounds through it. So off to war I went, they sent a FEDEX truck to pick it up, so it's in Miami now and I plan on calling tomorrow to see what's happening with it.

How many of these type reports is it gonna take for folks to figure out that Taurus is putting out JUNK these days and don't even try to fix it when returned to them?

Sorry to hear that you all have had so many problems, but I have had a blast the last 6 mos shooting my junk and have taken a pickup bed full of game. I guess the saying one man's junk is another's treasure. And there's similar post in most other brands of guns, cars or anything these days. Just another view point! :)

Doesn't sound like people are stating viewpoints.  There seems to be a bonafide problem.  I'm glad yours has been a good experience.  But it's difficult to overlook the problems others are having.  I'll be purchasing a 1911 before long, probably spend 500 - 1000 dollars.  But it is not going to be on a Taurus.

There isn't any certain fact that can show that every Taurus gun is going to be junk.  I've had two and they were both junk, that doesn't mean that somebody else didn't get one that actually worked.  Maybe I just got guns made on Friday afternoons, but regardless I'll never buy another one of those junk guns again.  Good luck if you want to buy a Taurus.  If you haven't had problems yet, keep on shooting, you probably will from my experience.

I have owned a couple of Taurus guns and the current one, which is an older knock off of the S&W Highway Patrolman in .357 is wonderful.  When a bought it used, a couple of days ago I compared it side by side to a S & W a few years old, and newer Taurus guns like the tracker.  The old Taurus was identical in form, fit and function to the Smith and was miles ahead of the new Taurus guns in the same areas.
I couldn't be more happy with my Taurus.  It is around 10 years old and is a great piece of work.
Too bad they couldn't have kept the qualilty up.

It makes a person wonder how they could have let their manufacturing get so bad.  I have Taurus knock off of the S&W Highway Patrolman.  It' fit, finish and accuracy are great.  It looks like a Smith, feels like one, shoots like one, and is every bit as reliable.  Of course it is several years old.  When I bought it used a few days ago, I had the opportunity to compare it side by side with new Taurus models like the Tracker and others.  There was no comparison, the .357  that I bought was miles ahead in fit, finish and function.  In fact, the store had a vintage S&W Highway Patrolman of which the Taurus was a perfect match in every way.

I am surprised that Taurus is ignoring the problem.  It has to be apparent to them.
