Got my action job done on my Model 83
« on: October 02, 2007, 04:06:32 PM »
Drove down to Freedom Arms from Jackson Wyo. last Wed. Very nice people. Said it would be done that evening. I could not make it back till Thur. Had time to look around at the mounted heads in the front and just shoot the bull. I also bought a real neat camo cap with the Freedom Arms logo. Very nice experience.
Went out Saturday to test fire and I can't believe the difference between the four pound plus trigger and the three pound it now has. Also, the action is so much smother. Its like almost a new handgun in the way it handles. I would recommend this to any one who does not have the factory action job. It is worth the money.

Glad that you are happy with the trigger job. I purchased my Model 97 with the factory 3lb. trigger jib and it is nice and crisp. I wish they would do triggers even lighter but they say no 3lb.and no less. I use mine for target only and a 2 or 2 1/2lb. trigger would be nice. I have read posts of guys who have F.A. triggers lighter than 3lbs.? Maybe at one point they would make them lighter?  For me, target and sihlouette use, the lighter the better within reason. I have several  S&W revolvers that came from the factory with triggers as crisp and lighter than my F.A.  I have no complaints except I wish it were lighter. I imagine that guys have further lightened their triggers but I am hesitant to tear mine down.

Well I'm sorta 'tween a rock and a hard place here, be'n the moderator of this forum and all but I just gotta say this.  It strikes me as a just a bit too much that a guy saves for several months to buy a $2000+ handgun and then has to pay for an "action job" to get the best performance out of it.  Several of the guns in my safe cost under $1000 and if I have to spend $50-$100 to have one snuffed up a bit to shoot its best I can understand that but on a $2000 gun it do torque my jaws.  That's all.

Mr. Miller , I feel your pain. I own two Freedom Arms handguns and paid for their factory 3 pound triggers. Long story short...Compaired to their regular triggers, it was money well spend. I never looked back. I would do it again and again. Rod in Pa.

I agree with the less then three pound pull. I asked them for a two pound pull but was told the three pound was as low as they go. I have a Ruger Acusport Bisley in 45 Colt that has a 2 pound pull that a gunsmith did for me (cost $35.00) and it is a death ray set up like that. I also agree that any Freedom Arms should come with the factory action job as standard. I am very surprised they do not.

FA makes great guns and they're really nice people to do business with but that one thing really ties a knot in my gut.

I too was taken back at first about paying for a trigger job, but if you think about it...

When you pay for a 'Stock' FA you are paying for the Manufacturing of the gun to the fit and tolerances they are known for.  They are a production gun manufacture...NOT a custom gun shop.  The cost of the gun is priced to cover Materials, Machining, Equipment and Employers.  Any extra, cost extra.  When you buy a truck, yo have to pay for the extras too...and IMO $35000+ for a pickup is Outrageous!...That's a lot of FAs and you will have them a WHOLE lot longer than anyone every keeps there vehicles!
