Krylon web paint on stocks
« on: August 25, 2007, 07:56:03 AM »
I am wanting to paint my gun stock with Krylon web paint over the original black synthetic stock. I called Krylon, and they had no idea which clear coat I should use, and told me to refer to people who have already had sucess painting their gunstocks. I was wondering if anyone has had sucsess with a satin clear coat. If anyone has tried this could you please help me out with a brand and paint type, because most companies have multiple types of clear coats. Thanks, any help will be appreciated, I'd like to finish my project before the season starts.

Alan.

I found I didn't need a clear coat with the krylon texture paint.   Here is another pic of the rifle and stock.  I like it a lot better than the feel of the injection molded stock.

I used the Krylon paints on my all my stocks.the latest one I painted with the Krylon Camo OD Green, then sprayed Black webbing and then followed it up with 2 coats of the Krylon Satin clear coat. Turned out really nice.

What is it that you are looking for? Durability or shine?

Let me know and I will give you all the details.I have painted about 50 different stocks.

Here is a picture of the latest:

Tim;  I'm looking for durability and satin but Krylon is not sure of which of their clear satin paint are best and will not lift the web paint.
     Thanks Alan.

Alan, I have used the Krylon Satrin on many stocks and never had any problems with it. It has also not lifted or messed up the webbing at all. Put 2 or 3 coats on about 20 mintues apart from each other and you should be good to go.Hope this helps.
