You probably won't agree with me

(There is not exactly a scope section) I have all top quality, name brand firearms because I have tried most brands and really do find the name brands are usually (with some exceptions) worth the difference. BUT I don't find the same variation in scopes. Years ago I used to read that cheap scopes in variable power would change zero in different powers but not any more. I see friends shooting with scopes costing many hundreds of dollars and I can match anything they can do with my cheapo scopes. I usually get a closeout or special sale on a scope that would sell retail for say $139.00 on sale for 69.00-89.00. That is about my limit. Right now on my Bar with boss it seems like I can shoot with the best of them-I would be embarrassed for them to know my BSA scope was only $40.00 at a closeout sale at a gunshow. It seems to be as crystal clear, with good eye relief, and good field of view as any. I look through their scopes and wonder what the heck is the difference?  I don't hunt and I know there might be a big difference in light gathering ability in low light but other than that?

Hey southernshooter,
Why not post your message down on the Optics Forum....probably would get some interesting comments???  We're not really sticklers for rules here at GrayBeard, just want you to get the best bang for the buck, which is what your post is about, right?

Not to say your wrong or right but from the hunting stand point it is the differance when at dusk or dawn, I have seen many a hunt ruined when the guys optics gave out, you have to take into consideration you spend $600.00 on your gun $3000.00 for your hunt not to mention the expense for all your gear, time off work, time away from home, many nights spent dreaming about your hunt, then your scope goes!!!!!!!!!!!! all because you wanted to save a few bucks.
It is just like buying a quality gun, you buy it for the long haul, because you are only as good as your optics, I have mounted many high end scopes (leupold, zeis, burris,) on lever guns and pump shotguns, because these guys realized this.

So for just plinking, I can see your point, but for anything else it is really worth saving up for.
