25-35 winchester
« on: June 09, 2003, 03:42:34 PM »
:P I have an idea for a project.  I think I will get a win. 94 30-30 and change it over to a 25-35 win.  The reason I want to do this is because there are a bunch of 30-30s around and I can't seem to find a decent 25-35 that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
I called up Cosby Custom Gunsmithing and they said they could reline the barrel to 25-35 for about $375.  With the cost of a 30-30 and the reline price it would still be cheaper than buying a decent 25-35.
What do you guys think?  Is a reline anygood?  Getting a new barrel made would cost a little more, but it may be worth the trouble.  Is there any other gunsmiths that do these kinds of jobs?  BTW, I am looking to get the SRC version redone.
     How does this job sound?

That price quote seems a bit high. Check with Redmans in Omak, Washington. They usually have a regular ad in Gun List.
They did a reline for me a few years back and it was a little over half what you were quoted.
I think your idea is a good one otherwise. The cost of a decent '94 in .30-30 is very reasonable.

:? I just talked to Redmans Rifling and Reboring and they said that it was not possible to reline a 30-30 to 25-35 because the barrel is to thin and you can't use the chamber of the 30-30.  This is what I suspected and that is why I decided to call some other places.
I guess I will be looking for a place to put a new barrel on.
Any suggestions?

I am considering having a 336 built in .250 Savage.  If you find someone willing to re-barrel at a reasonable price please post.
